    SOLD!: '95 Neon ACR

This is a piece of Neon history. One of the original '94 build ACR sedans from the days when an SCCA competition license was required to order one. I have a massive folder containing all of the history on the car.

1995 Plymouth ACR sedan. Rust free California car that is near mint condition with only 50k miles! Bought new to be raced in SCCA showroom stock class road racing. The car has a bolt-in roll cage and 5-point belt that could easily be removed if that's not your thing (I am able to do this for you if needed).

The car was not raced much, and driven more on the street. It's in fantastic condition and drives / looks as if still new. It's a very well taken care of car. The car has a matching  full-size spare and 5 new Yokohama tires. There are very few modifications including an ice-man intake, larger front swaybar, dynomax muffler, new Koni Yellows with eibach coil-over springs, and a new set of shifter bushings.

    Usual ACR build:
3.94 final drive with .81 fifth gear
    quicker ratio steering rack
    larger front hubs/bearings
    four-wheel disc brakes
    No A/C or power options
The car was originally a radio delete car, but an aftermarket CD player w/ aux input was added as well as a pair of front door speakers. There is still no antenna, so no radio service.

The car looks very nice, handles wonderfully, and sounds great. It is truly a pleasure to drive and own. In December 2009, I drove this car from Los Angeles, California to Toronto, Ontario and then home to St. Louis, Missouri. It was a 4,405 mile trip over the course of two weeks and the car performed wonderfully. I averaged 28mpg. I had the timing belt changed before the trip, so the timing belt has only 4,405 miles on it.

The car was a race car and has a few small bruises from racing days. There is a small wrinkle in the LF fender, some rock chips in the paint, and a bit of paint rubbed off on the leading edge of the rear bumper cover. None of these are very noticeable and are not items that I would even consider fixing. I think they add some character and are part of the history of the car. The car does still have a few of the original racing decals on it.

The dynomax muffler has a bad rattle in it... I think a weld must have gone bad inside of it. There is also a fairly loud rattle in the dash somewhere. I'll try to fix that one myself if I can figure out what it is. It was annoying on my 4,405 mile road trip! The final issue is that the throwout bearing is noisy when the car is cold. I am told that this has been the case since the car was new, but I imagine that they weren't doing much warranty work with cars that were being raced. The noise goes away as soon as the car warms up a bit and the noise is not even present on warm days. I'd consider a throwout bearing replacement in the future, but it's not an immediate concern.

I do not need to sell this car. I absolutely adore it, but really don't have the time to play with it. I'm offering it for sale at a fair price given the condition and rarity. I am not very flexible and I'm not entertaining offers. :-)

$4,500 Located in St. Louis, Missouri. Delivery is available and subject to negotiation.

Side note; This is the type of car we all wish the manufactures were still building. It's a no-nonsense bare bones car that is all about providing an exciting driving experience while also being affordable and economical. There is no traction control, no tire pressure monitors, no 19" wheels with tires that no one can afford, and most importantly: no goofy hybrid green car bs. 30mpg, affordable to own, and a world class driving experience.

Speaking of driving experience, I've owned well over fifty different cars and probably driven over a hundred performance cars in my lifetime. Without a doubt, the first generation Neon ACR provides the best driving experience I have ever felt second only to the Lotus Elise. For that direct feeling and connection to the road; I prefer the Neon ACR over anything else I have owned including a G35, S2000, MR2 spyder, as well as both generations of Miata.

Re: FS: '95 Neon ACR - Konis - low miles

Engine and interior are all stock and just as nice as the exterior... it all looks new including stock seats. The bolt-in roll cage looks very nice and was carefully installed into the car. There are four places in the carpet that have been cut slightly to facilitate installation, but the rest of the interior is perfect. I think there may be a little coffee stain in the passenger side floor carpet under the floor mat.

I don't have a lot of free time, but I can possibly find a chance to get pics next week if it's a must have deal breaker situation.

Additionally, I wanted to mention that I have been a valued member of the neon forum for eight years and I have good feedback there as well as eBay. I am also an eBay powerseller as well as paypal certified.

Re: FS: '95 Neon ACR - Konis - low miles

Maybe I missed it, but how many miles are on the car? When was the last time things like plugs, wires, distributor, water pump, brakes, coolant flush, tranny flush, and clutch were done? Care to disclose what the spring rates on the coilovers are? (Just trying to figure out what the ride would be like on the street.)

    Thanks!

Re: FS: '95 Neon ACR - Konis - low miles

Only 50k miles. Everything is original and in good working order. Front brakes and transmission fluid have only 5k miles on them. When the timing belt was replaced, the water pump as well as the timing tensioner and front crank seal were inspected and found to be in good working order. I think I've owned seven Neons before and this is the nicest one for sure.

I'm fairly certain that I know what the spring rates are, but I have the receipt with part numbers at home and I will get back to you on this topic. It's not too bad on the street... I survived a cross-country road trip with it!

I don't know a whole lot about the ACR models, but since this is a '95 sedan, it has the SOHC motor with the "hot" camshaft, correct?

Re: FS: '95 Neon ACR - Konis - low miles

Correct. This is also the lightest weight of all Neons.

I know entirely too much about these cars, so please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.  (646) 571-8153

Re: FS: '95 Neon ACR - Konis - low miles

What kind of Yoko tires are on it now? Are they good enough to deal with some rain / ice / snow if I were to drive it back to Ohio from St. Louis? Hopefully I wouldn't run into that, but with all this global warming you never know when it is going to snow.

Re: FS: '95 Neon ACR - Konis - low miles

I forget the exact name, but they are sporty all-season tires. Yokohama AVID somethings. They have turned about 5k highway miles and they look as if new.

I ran across some snow on my trip up to Toronto and the car performed wonderfully. The tires were perfect for a snowy highway.

Oh, and for whatever it may be worth:

I've purchased a lot of cars sight-unseen over the internet and also sold a few. I'm experienced with that sort of thing and I'll do anything I can to make it a perfect experience for the buyer. I live very close to the airport in St. Louis (Lambert International) and would be happy to pick up the buyer.

What is your username on eBay? Do you have any pics to verify the suspension? Sorry for all the questions, I just don't regularly consider buying something I can't see and touch.

Part number for eibach springs: 150.64.66 & 150.64.53. Coilover sleeves are ground control

I hope that is enough. It's too cold / snowy to go outside taking pictures right now :-)

Re: FS: '95 Neon ACR - Konis - low miles

For all interested, looks like the rates on those ERS springs are 375 lb/in and 300 lb/in. Very tolerable for the street Yes.

Would you be okay with me finding a fellow enthusiast in your area to come check out the car?

If you are a serious buyer, I would be happy to arrange a meeting with someone in the area. The car is in wonderful condition and speaks for itself.

This being said, I'm probably not going to take the time to wash the car and show it to someone until I've heard from you by phone.

By popular request, here are some interior pictures. I do apologize for the low-quality cellphone pictures, but I don't have much free time at the moment.

Everything is perfect other than some of the black paint has worn off the rollcage bar on the driver's front side from getting in and out and the little plastic vent on the RF of the dash has been removed to facilitate installation of the RF main vertical bar of the rollcage.
