    New PAX

The numbers have been out for a couple days and there have been no complaints here.  I was sure there would be a little :)

I just hope Tim Aro doesn't come down too much with the soft index CSP now has Tongue Tied

    Re: New PAX

I have been complaining, just not in this forum.  I agree that CSP is off, I think STU is wrong and the new GS could be interesting.  It has been discussed so much in the other forums areas though that I won't get into it too much here.

We will see how it goes, my car will be prepped more for next season anyway and the engine will be healthy so maybe it won't be that bad.

I have no issues with the new RTP index, it's only a tenth of a second on a 60 second course anyways, any course design can change that in a heartbeat.  If you are fast, you are fast regardless of the RTP index.

giving some tenths up to Cashmore in the Corvette isn't going to help my cause, but hey, he's fast...  along with Aro, it should be hard to beat these guys in my eyes...

Personally, I'm a little upset that I'm going to have to go as fast as Darrell in his CP 'stang.  Crap, that thing is fast.

    Re: New PAX

I think that because ST is so cheap, there are 18 million mediocre ST drivers out there softening up the index so that good drivers like Craig, Jason and Washburn get to beat the crap out of us.  That, and I don't think that the index reflects how much better some of these street tires are getting...

If I would go to a street prepared class in the WRX I would need to be as fast as both...and that just isn't happening. I'm thinking I just need to get a different car. Screwed in DS by the '09 WRX and a number of other cars, screwed in STU by the STi & Evo, screwed in BSP by everything.

By comparison, the GS Genesis is only about 10hp and 3lb-ft of torque short of my DS WRX plus it has camber allowances and can fit something like a 275 on the rear. With the new PAX if I run 60.000 then the Genesis would only need to beat a 60.960.

...I'm currently accepting donations if anyone is concerned.

    Re: New PAX

Yeah, I think Rick missed on the ST index and really missed on the GS index.  If you want to win overall index next year, get yourself a GS Genesis (now with crash bolts) or an SRT-4 ACR (if you can keep it from breaking and afford to feed it tires).

OK, I'm bored... Steve what classes do you think ST is off compared too?  [open can of worms]

notice I'm doing this on the local board and the ST forum...

    Re: New PAX

Um, all of them.  Big Smile

It's a narrow view, but after seeing what you and Craig achieved this year, on, arguably, the wrong tires and on questionable shocks, I've gotta think that ST is a bit off.  Even when courses were blatantly designed against momentum cars (lots of slow down and speed up), the car was still right in there, or winning.  Then, by extension, if the Atlanta boys were running up here, they'd be winning every one of our events by 1/2 sec or more.

Now, if I suddenly saw some shock dyno curves that looked good for the application they are in, I might have a change of heart. Wink

    Re: New PAX

I'm confident that the Bridgestone is faster on most courses on asphalt, the surface at Lincoln, well I can't say for sure since I haven't tested other tires at Lincoln, at Miller Park I have though...  and since Rick puts more weight on region events that are mostly run on asphalt, I would have to say that our tires are very well suited for the RTP factor.

The shocks, OK, I can't argue with that.  I'd love to tell you that the shock curve was a good one, but I'd be lying... we do run a pretty smooth lot though, which isn't hurting us as much as it might other places.

I've said this before, the ST Civic does well on many types of courses... other cars not so much, I think that has a lot to do with why it does good on index.

I think this year will be interesting, the sisters will have the Miata in better condition and hopefully not revalve the car 4 times, Fenter will be on R-compounds, SS picked up a couple tenths on ST, Paddberg basically picks up a half second...

    Re: New PAX

For those running WAI, I think that this is going to be the year of the Paddberg.  Depending on which tire he choses, he's going to be hard to beat given the soft index.  I got beat by Craig and Jason all year anyways, so I guess this whole argument doesn't really matter to me that much.  I'm still going to be slower than the fast guys, and I'm still going to be faster than the slow guys.

I will have to pick it up a bit in order to pick on Windscreen and Chris, though.  I'm thinking different springs and some newly re-valved Penske's will help, maybe even some time on the dyno and new injectors, put the fat boy on the diet (the car, that is), etc. etc.

Is Fenter co-driving with Chris Shay?  That could make for a very interesting year...

It's going to an interesting season...
