    race gas/e85.

Had somone tell me race gas was legal in ST, but I cant find anything saying yes or no in the rules. Read through the stock and ST areas. Since it wasnt mentioned do I assume its (race fuel or e85) not legal?

You have to be able to get it out of the pump at a gas station.

This usually includes 100 octane unleaded and E85.

    Here's the rule:

    3.6 FUEL
    A. Stock and Street Touring Class vehicles will use service station
pump fuel only. Pump fuel is defined as that which is “Federally
approved for use on public highways.” This includes the pump
fuel known as “E85, but does not allow racing-type fuels which
are available at service station pumps.
    B. In addition to fuels which are allowed by 3.6.A, Street Prepared,
Street Modified, Prepared, and Modified class vehicles may use
diesel fuel or any grade of gasoline. Gasolines consist entirely of
hydrocarbon compounds. Gasoline may contain antioxidants,
metal deactivators, corrosion inhibitors and lead alkyl compounds
such as tetraethyl lead. Oxygen and/or nitrogen bearing addi-
tives are prohibited, except for those originally present in service
station pump fuel. Oxygen and/or nitrogen bearing oil additives
are prohibited in two-cycle engine oiling systems.

If you are interested, Tim Smith's Civic Si, the one I drive in STX this year, is running e85.

We've been very happy with the performance. Fairly certain Tim would answer any questions you had.

Id be interested in any info you guys are wiling to share. My engine builder wants to do a setup in a NA car with e85, I just dont know anything about it.

Is it spendy for the conversion, can you use the same cat converter, same injectors? Like it better than regular fuel? What kind of miliage do the car get now? Is the car daily driven? Worth the time/money? Sorry for so many noob questions, but like I said. I am very uninformed. TIA!

I thought the stock injectors were too small?

Tim had those pesky stock injectors swapped out for some bigger ones when he had the sneaky pete nitrous system installed (the nitrouse is housed in small orange cans under the hood with the word "Moton" stencilled on them).

It's neat to hear how advancements are still being made in these cars after all these years.  Too bad E85 is so hard to find out here.

I'd be curious to hear what sort of gains were found with the E85 over pump 91 or the legal 100 octane stuff like Sunoco GT100.  How much initial timing?  Any worries of corrosion in fuel system? How close to 100% duty cycle are the injectors?  How about the fuel pump?

Since Tim did all the work to figure this stuff out I doubt he'd want to give away all the answers, but those are just the ones I'd have.Yes

    Re: race gas/e85.

I'm fairly certain Tim would be more than willing to give up the information on his setup.

He is sponsored by an ethanol product company.

As far as gains there weren't any of significance for a ST prepped motor.I think Tim said the stock Si motor is too mild and ST allowances are too mild to allow for any significant power gains with e85. But, it's is greener. ;)

However, Dave Hardy is also running e85 in his SM turbo Civic and I think he saw some but can't say for sure.

    Re: race gas/e85.

Did a little research and I dont think that setup is for me. I was hoping for more hp and maybe some better miliage. Was told at the best +10hp in a sohc motor, plus you have to run 9.1 AFR's. I dont think that will save me any at the pump either, lol.

There are guys here with forced setups that I can see the benefits...plain as day, but not for a stocker motor civic.

Either way, thanks to those who took the time to respond. Its much appreciated.
