Yup, Dan G. is still nursing broken ribs and wasn't ready to compete. He said that he'll be running next season.
I assumed correctly that good-looking Twisted Sista looks more like her mom than Dan.
She'll be happy to know that her car is competitive in SSC and can run with boys next year. Bill H. had a good time with us and we were happy to see him at RA. I hadn't seen him since the Runoffs (where we both did much too much crunching of our cars).
Gino and I seem to have run into problems at nearly the same times during the Cat Nat. Mine came on, I think, the third lap when I tried to shift up exiting Canada Corner and found that the car didn't want to run in any gear-splutter, splutter. It was the first sour moment of the weekend because the rented RSX-S had run like a top on Saturday and I was just totally relaxed and stroking around all day. We were leading SSB and trying to pass some laggard (as in a bit slow) SM drivers who were busy racing each other and not letting faster cars through (perhaps this is what I get for not trying to qualify a bit faster) when the missing started.
I limped the car through 13 and 14 with a guess that it was only working in fourth gear, stumbling badly. I had to let nearly everyone pass, dropping to close to last with some mighty slow laps before the stumbling began to ease. It seemed to be a fuel pickup problem which was slowly clearing but made sharper corners a guessing game. I don't like having the fuel shut off at full speed in corner one--talk about rapid change in your line! Thank goodness it didn't do that in the Carousel or the Kink!
It cleared up on straights so that I could run well there, and finally let me run the last two laps or so without a problem. I repassed poor Gino in the middle of the race, limping along and surely unhappy at not getting to run with Bill. I stubbornly ran to the end and am glad that I did to find out that the missing cleared up.
Does this sound familiar to any RSX or Honda drivers? I was renting, but any help at solving the problem would be appreciated by the owner, I'm certain. I think it was a fuel pickup problem, but what else might have happened? The car sat after the 2005 Runoffs until now, except for a brief test drive on the street a matter of days ago, then it ran great all day Saturday.
I really enjoyed driving the car, not having driven at all this year and not having driven a FWD for some years, it was fun. I was holding back to avoid any trouble with the car and just beginning to get racy when the missing began. The Hondas and Acuras will be formidable at the Runoffs next year.
