    flywheel/clutch substitution

Ok, i need some clues as to what options i have...

My stock dual mass flywheel is probably shot.  Its a terrible design for people that don't know how to drive stick and is easily damaged by launches, downshifting, etc.  There are very many VR6/other  clutch/flywheel/pp kits for $300+ that easily fit my budget.  To get the same dual mass flywheel from VW or anywhere else = $600+ for just the flywheel.

The VR6 GTI's have a flywheel/clutch/pp that will fit and work fine, except its lighter and single mass and 3mm wider clutch disc.  Are there any rules that allow me to use any other flywheel setups.  If any of the year models of 1.8t GTI's came with single mass flywheels can i use those?  Some GTI's(03's, but not my year) came with a 6spd tranny with a completely diff flywheel/clutch/pp setup, can i switch out wholesale?  if i switch all the seasts, valences, etc?  Also, the GLI in 04' came with the same 6spd deal, could i use that?

No to lighter, No to different friction compound, No to stiffer springs, No to different friction area, etc.
