Hmm, what happened to 07-291 Move SRT-4 from CSP to DSP?

I already sent an email in to seb@scca.com but also wanted to bring it up here. In the July FASTRAC it appeared for member comment with a note of recommendation from the SPAC on the member request to move the Dodge SRT-4 from CSP to DSP. I see no other mention of this but I did see that in the January edition of FASTRAC, the Mazdaspeed 3 (a similar car) was classed in DSP. Hopefully, it went through and simply missed its FASTRAC notice.

Anybody know what's up with this reclass? I assumed it was a done deal until we started talking about it on another forum, then I looked it up. Or tried to.

Come on Steve, the SRT-4 is the fastest car eVAR!!!

I would think the Mazdaspeed3 in SP trim might be a fun car.  Like you point out, seems pretty similar in potential to our neons.  It gains more from stock than we do.

I wonder if 15" rims can clear the brakes on either car?  I would think it would be fine on the neon, I've never seen the brakes on a MS3.  Those 275 Hoosiers are probably a key component to making these cars viable.  Although, I don't know how I'd keep the engine in the car with 275 hoosiers.  It didn't survive well with 275 Falkens.

Hey Steve, long time no see. So, what is it about the big tires that hurt your motor? Just for the record I have no immediate plans to take on SP with my SRT-4; no money or time for a project like this but I think the class would benefit as there's a number of these cars out there that could use a competitive place to play.

He wasn't having engine problems. He was having problems keeping the engine in the chassis, motor mount failures.

15" wheels will not even fit over the normally aspirated Mazda 2.3 so they will not fit on the MS3.

I test fit a buddy's 15" Rotas from his Celica early on in my ownership of my SRT-4 and they cleared the brakes. It was close but they cleared. I have no clue how close is too close to be driving on so, somebody more interested in this will have to try it, I guess. I've heard of some using 15" wheels for snow tires, too.

Whelp, it looks like from the latest Fastrack that what's happening now is this issue is on the table for next year. I would appreciate it if all in favor of the reclass could send a message to the SEB saying as much.

    April 2008 Fastrack

    "STREET PREPARED
    • The following listing change proposals have been recommended by the SPAC and are being published for member comment:

Move from CSP to DSP, on a separate line: Dodge Neon SRT-4 (ref. 08-014)"

    Thanks guys and gals,

I'll definitely send them a message. So this is for 2009 then? No chance of DSP in 08?

Re: Hmm, what happened to 07-291 Move SRT-4 from CSP to DSP?

I'm assuming this is now only possible for '09. I spoke with Doug Gill earlier this month and he didn't think the earlier request could be put in place this year even under "errors and ommissions." From what he told me the reclass had wide support but it just didn't make it to the BOD in time for 2008 for whatever reason.
