    CVT belt question

I am planning on building an A-Mod "type" vehicle to run hillclimbs and maybe a few track events. It would be a cross between an A-Mod and a formula 500 with a 3 or 4 cylinder sled motor and a CVT to chain drive system. My question is, can the belts that are used and currently available handle the heat and loads that running extended periods on track can generate? Hillclimbs and autocrosses are not a problem, but a 30 minute track session might be. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

      Dan

    Re: CVT belt question

I wouldn't think that would be a problem.  The belts are really well made.  The loads that snowmobilers put one them really exceeds the stress of wheel driven vehicles.  Even the old belts handle road racing stresses of formula 500.

    Re: CVT belt question

The Aaen claims up to 300HP reliably for the belt, but can the chain handle it?  CVT A-mods require very short chain runs (sprocket center distance) which can overheat the chain at roadcourse speeds, at least that is what I read on the sportsracer forum.  I don't have any experience though.

    Re: CVT belt question

I'm not sure, but we used to road race 125cc shifter karts with some very short 428 chains and I personally never had a chain failure. I know the 250cc shifters are nearly 100hp and I don't remember them having issues either. I guess that if this project ever gets off the ground and eventually completed, we shall see. Thanks for the links.
