    Winter projects

What is everybody working on this winter?

I finally got a little time to start assembling the Cobra.  Hope to have it sitting on wheels in a couple weeks if things go well.  Im sure it wont be done in time to race this season at all but after a year of collecting parts and waiting for a break in the work schedule it looks like I may finally make some progress.  starting out with the suspension and aluminum work then we need to fit the motor and trans in.  Might get to go-cart mode by spring anyway.  I'll update the photosite when there is something to see.

hope you all are having a good off season!

I forgot about this project.....how bout some pictures?  I can't wait to see this thing run.

You should also start a thread in the prepared forum.  They may have some good

feedback for you as far as setup and classing.

Photos of the Donor car and the build progress as it happens.  I have been working with the FFR Autocross group on the suspension mods so far.  spherical bearings in the rear knuckles, delron in the front tubular arms, solid mounts for the steering rack and working out the details on reconfiguring the steering angles a bit.  I feel a bit over my head in the suspension setup most days but Im learning.  I may have to call in  Professors Headly and Lewis for some in depth explanations of what I'm trying to accomplish.  should have the suspension assembled by the end of the week.

    Re: Winter projects

Cool FFR Cobra project. That car and the Daytona Coupe are my favorite kit cars.

Now that I have a 5 month old girl to go along aith my 4 year old, most of my time is spent with them. They have their own web page. http://www.bsu.edu/web/sawoosley/noraglennis_index.htm      They're the major reason I only had time to attend one event last year.

My Rabbit GTI is stashed away for now; no real changes needed (or worth it). I'm looking forward to October, when I can get Antique Vehicle plates for it.

I picked up another project car. A '92 Plymouth Laser RS AWD Turbo that barely ran and died frequently for $900. $3.50 of capacitors from ebay and some soldering fixed the ECU and it runs perfectly now. I'm thinking I might like to compete with it in the $2008 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge, so I've been scoring some really good deals for parts for it over the internet, but I haven't had time to turn any wrenches on it yet. Basically, I'm doing what I can while still on baby duty for now. My plans for it though, should get it down to 2600-2700 lbs and have >300whp. It even came with both a center and rear lsd. My single biggest ticket item that remains to be purchased is tires. I want 225/50/15 Kumho V710s for dirt cheap. Anyone?

    Re: Winter projects

Ive got some 245/50/15 hoosiers left over from the trans am around here some where.  went to 275 on that one.  I need some 315/35 or 40/17   old skins to use for fitment and roll arounds on the cobra if anyone has some old vette skins lying around.

Finished the spherical bushing inserts for the rear IRS knuckles this week, working on solid mounts for the steering rack that lower it another 1/2" and some steering angle improvements to reduce bump steer and increase castor.  I made delron bushings for the front tubular control arms to reduce deflection and make the front a little more stable.

Ive got my Herb Adams suspension book out and Im learning as fast as I can, Im only a business major after all... that means I should have the money to build things I don't understand right?
