So here I sit for my 3rd day in Rawlins wyoming trying to get my truck fixed. For anyone that owns one of these trucks 98.5 to current. They use a VP44 injector pump which requires a lower pressure feed pump 10PSI minimum for a non-modded truck. The pumps are reliable until the low pressure pump fails. (stock looks like carter race pump) Once the low pressure pump fail to provide fuel to the intake side of the diesel pump the main pump starts to burn itself up. (2500 bucks if your lucky) Well basically thats what has happened to my truck. The pisser is that the big pump could be saved with a low pressure warning light added to the system. (Which mine will now have.) to warn you of this low pressure condition. The burn up rate is much quicker based on low sulfer low lube diesel. So the long and the short of the story is if you use this kind of truck go have a fuel warning light it a pressure gauge installed today. It could save you about 4K cause after the tow w/racetrailer and 4 or 5 nights in a hotel thats about what the repair will be.

Are you referring to the lift pump? If so this is a very common problem with the ISB Cummins. The good news is that the 6.7 ISB  does not have a lift pump, the 6.7 is the 07 EPA version of the ISB.

Yep, very common problem.  The Cummins I had, had zero problems other that replacing the lift pump twice in 180K miles.  The warning light is a good idea.   The other easy telltale sign is hard starting after replacing the fuel filter during a normal service.
