    Nitto NT-01 tires for autocross

Anyone tried these for autocross?  I was thinking of getting these instead of v710s for my g35.

The reason why I am asking is because I have been autocrossing for about a year and a half and still learning a lot every time I go out.  I was thinking since these are less expensive about 900 vs 1075 shipped a set and hae a higher treadwear they would work for me better for me (lastlonger)  since I am just learning and not going to be winning anything substaintial anytime soon.

I was wondering what you thought about them....

If you are wanting to stay cheap you could look for the AVON's that are on closeout at Tirerack, although they won't last as long as the Nittos its a cheap way to try out some R-comps.  I have been running some Hankook Z211's this year which I got from frisbyracetire.com which are similar to the Nittos but are on closeout and are quite a bit cheaper.

The word on the street is that this is the Toyo RA1 compound. If that's the case, they are apoor choice for autocross. The RA1 compound is meant for road course use and needs more heat than you can build up at an autocross to work well. A better choice might be a Kumho Victoracer. They are a long-wearing tire like the NT-01, but should warm up faster on short runs. At least, 205s on my 2200lb Miata heat up well enough.

I agree.  If you prefer the long-wear-but-still-pretty-sticky-tire, I also agree that the Victoracers are a good choice.

I'm off  now to play on my Avon's...Wink

Are Victoracer V700's available in your size?

I learned on a shaved set of these and they seemed to last forever... They are much better than streets, but just get out gunned with the V710's, A6's and likely Z214's.

    Just a thought.

John (motorsports engineer) actualyl said it's a R888-like compound. Either way, it's not recommended for autoX.

Re: Nitto NT-01 tires for autocross

I have run RA-1s for several years now as a track/autox/street tire on my 911, and I think they are the best of all worlds.  I did an event on the Nitto NT-01s driving a Cayman S, and I thought they were almost worse than street tires.  I would not run the Nittos for autox.

FWIW, Toyo's website says that the RA-1 has the same compound as the NT-555 Drag Radial, not the NT-01.
