IS the JCW Works package going to moved from ASP now that it is BS
Now that a 2006 JCW is in B stock, is it still going to be put is ASP?
Seeming how a Cooper S is in DSP and that the JCW is now a factory line option, I'm unclear if I could backdate a 2005 Cooper S to 2006 specs and be in DSP. It appears that it would be possible if the dealer installed kit wasn't placed in ASP and it would be better placed in DSP, but it still states in the classifications that the Works package is in ASP.
If a 2006 JCW got classed in an appropriate SP category, then earlier years could be backdated. But as it stands, it appears that even a 2006 JCW that goes into SP would be ASP. Thats doesn't really seem logical.

Re: IS the JCW Works package going to moved from ASP now that it is BS
Unofficially at this point, until the SEB acts on it and publishes it, the SPAC recommended that the JCW be added to the same line as the Cooper S in DSP, and will include the dealer-installed JCW kit previously exiled to ASP.

Keep checking FasTrack. I'm not sure what the meeting/publishing lag is now that it's gone web-only-except-by-special-request.

Re: IS the JCW Works package going to moved from ASP now that it is BS
Well, it didn't make the March Fastrack, thats a real bummer since we
were going to run it in the Arkansas NT and Pro in addition to
STX. I sure the heck don't want to see it in ASP against the
Vette's and Porsche's, but, if it doesn't happen, I guess we'll have no
choice. I guess I should get some ASP letters made. :-}

Run it. Its legal under the existing classification in DSP. The ASP listing is for the earlier dealer-installed cars. You'll see something official in Fasttrack in four weeks, but a call to the national office (Doug) can verify the info I am giving you here.

Re: IS the JCW Works package going to moved from ASP now that it is BS
Andy, do you know if the next fastrack will eliminate the works package from ASP? I understand your comment that it would be legal in DSP as it stands, but my scenario is a bit different becuase I am in Canada where we mirror SCCA classifications but we have a category that is between stock and SP (termed SS) . In this category, there is no update/packdate permission, but the classifications are the same as SCCA SP. We do have a SP class which has a update/backdate permission, but the amount of mods in Canada SP class is more in line with SCCA prepared classes.
So if the fasttrack stated that the dealer installed kit was legal in SP or it was taken out of ASP, then I could run in Canada DSS class where the car could potentially be an overdog in Canada. Canada DSP rules allow for more extensive mods and, consequently a worse PAX.
I'm an SCCA member even though I don't run any events in the US (except for the national tour where I'll be running my 06 Elise). My fiance drives the 05 JCW and it is an awesome car, and actually had FTD in one event, but based on PAX it gets killed.
thanks

Final wording is yet to be determined. Look for official notice in about four weeks time. Its a weird situation because we can't just change the classing of the dealer-installed car until 1/2007 since its outside the 12-month reclass window. But we can (and did) recognize that the 2006 car has this equipment as a factory option and is thus legal in its current class (DSP). The ASP classing was always about the dealer-installed option (forum banter notwithstanding).
The *only* reason I am putting this out here now (before Fastrack) is because one can always call the national office (Doug) for classing info on new models (or new situations). And if the SEB has discussed, he can relay that. And that *is* official. Its even recommended in the rulebook somewhere.

How can that be done if the dealer installed cars are on a different line, not to mention, different class?
Correct me if I'm wrong of course, but you can only UD/BD to cars on the same line. (or has that changed now too???)

Re: IS the JCW Works package going to moved from ASP now that it is BS
I would assume that an option would be to: 1. Assumption: the SEB/SPAC has discussed and placed the '06 JCW in DSP, on the same line as the existing Cooper S listing and that this is effective now. 2. "Change" out all the parts of your pre-06 JCW to a normal Cooper S. Such a car is now legal for DSP.
3. Update/backdate your pre-06 "normal" Cooper S with the '06 JCW parts. - If they are all the same parts as on your pre-06 dealer JCW, well, then your pre-06 JCW-dealer car could now be "UD/BD" to a legal DSP configuration, with no actual physical swapping of parts at all.
- If there are different parts between the pre-06 and the '06 JCW, I would think you would need to switch those different parts either to the '06 JCW part or to any the part from any other eligible DSP Cooper S. Or if it is a part that is normally legal to switch in SP, then you could leave the pre-06 JCW part.
All theoretical and IMO of course. ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) And relying on the assumption from line 1. And FWIW it would not help the guy from Canada who can't use UD/BD.

I think that because the JCW is now a line item option on the 06 Mini S it falls under the Mini S classing in DSP. With the 06 JCW as a Mini S in DSP you can now update your prior Mini S with the JCW parts and still be DSP legal. So making the the dealer installed JCW package DSP legal.
This assumes that the parts are the same between the dealer package and the new factory package (or allowed in SP) and that the final wording on it leaves the JCW on the same line as the factory S.

Thanks for the info, its much appreciated. Thats what I was
attempting to argue on the other post on this issue, but, was beaten into submission,
sort of like the firewall/intake issue. :-)

The April Fastrack now states that the dealer installed kits are DSP legal.
"Street Prepared: The '06+ Mini Cooper S JCW factory option package is covered
and previous (dealer-installed) JCW package is the one covered by the current
pre-'06 can be updated to the '06+ package specs and thus be a DSP car."
The only thing I find confusing is that it also states:
"- The following class change proposal is submitted for member comment: Effective 1/1/2007, remove from ASP the Mini "Works" Package listing. NOTE: this will allow all JCW package Mini Cooper S models to be covered by the Cooper S listing in DSP (see Tech Bulletin below)."
Since the packages/parts are the same, if it is DSP legal already, why does it need member comment to remove it from ASP if technically it already has been removed as per the first statement?

The orginal ASP listing was a sort of pity classing like the STU JCW classing. It was not placed there to be competive it was placed there to have a place to play since it was such a popular AutoX car. The DSP JCW MCS is the new factory package. The old dealer package just happens to be the same and can be considered an "Update" on an older MCS that had the JCW package installed.
The rules process requires that prior listings be published for member comment before they are moved from one class to another so it is being listed for member comment now. The older dealer installed package is still classed in ASP you just happen to be able to run the older one in DSP under the magic of SP rules update/backdate.
