All regions which do run or are considering running the Junior
Classes (Generally, kids between the ages of 8 and 16)
as part of their autocross program are reminded of the following
requirements, as is posted in FasTrack for December.
There must be a licensed Youth Steward in charge of the classes,
and at the site. The Application Form for the YS license is available
in the solo forms section online:
Event chairs will note that there is a spot on the Sanction Application
for the Youth Steward, and that it is a required position for events
where the FJ classes run. (Note that the current wording is "Youth Safety
Steward". Since the Youth Steward is not required to be a Solo Safety
Steward, the word "Safety" is slated to be deleted from this part of future
versions of the Sanction Application)
There is a Junior Kart Program Guidelines booklet which will be available
soon online. It has information regarding the FJ program and will be a
valuable document for Junior Stewards, Event Chairs, and parents of
FJ competitors. I will post a further notice when I have been advised that
it is available.
Please spread the word around to all regions with FJ Programs. The
Number one concern for all involved is the safety of our kids. Making the
procedures uniform across all regions for the FJ competitors is a step
towards maintaining that goal.
An additional reminder: Those drivers in the 8-11 or FJB class which have
the Briggs World Formula engine for power MUST use the restrictor device
in the intake. This is a requirement which has been in place since April.
No FJB driver is allowed to compete without the restrictor, period.
