Re: Legality of Walker Cat in STS.......

    Andy Hollis:
Three points for Steve on the overbore deal:

    1) You forgot about the compression inccrease from the overbore.  Not that its huge, but it probably doubles the potential power increase.  Yeah, I know...a whopping total of 2 hp.  But people spend more for less.

    2) You are limiting your thoughts to small Honda motors.  The rule also has to work on *all* cars eligible to run.  Lots of times rules make less sense in certain applications than they do in others.

    3) If this was such a problem, I would think we'd have heard more about it by now.  You are late to the party in STS with a Civic.  Most of the frontrunners have rebuilt their motors within the rules and have had no problems.  Is this just a problem for your situation?  Or a theoretical one?

Off Topic: I have to agree with Andy on his points. If you take the 2.5L motor out of the Impreza RS, a .020 overbore would be a larger gain. Yes, it may not be 'the' car to have for the class, but if you start giving room for more power to the cars that already have more than the Civic, it could make things interesting. Regardless, I think it is a bad idea as it would become more of a must do to most, and this would trickle back to stock class I'd bet also, unless you're proposing this for STS, then it would be a factor in STX, STS2, STU etc. as well.

On Topic: I'd like to see the STX cat rule brought down to STS, would make things easier for everyone in the class, especially since older cars are currently dominant. Would open up header selection some as well. I'm working on prepping an older car for stock class myself and right now, only OE cats are an option and they are much more pricey (since there is two) than for your Honda's... and with the car having just shy of 90k miles, I fell it may be worth it, just not cost effective.

Just my $0.02 for the day.
