Re: FS: 1993 Geo Storm GSi 5-speed

when does it need a timing belt? every 60k? 80k? 90k? when was it changed last? rough mpg? 28? 34? 40?  :)

$1800 sounds like a pretty good deal though.

    does it have a/c?

I have the factory service manual, so I could look it up. I am pretty sure the previous owner replaced it about 10,000 miles or less ago as he had the head serviced. He competed it in the $2004 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge. I made the car STS legal, but it certainly isn't STS competitive--way too softly sprung for that. It is a very fun street car, however.

I have extensive gas mileage records and it gets 20-30mpg. That's a lot of autocrossing and city commuting. It is geared pretty low--4,000 rpm in fifth on the expressway. Not exactly an economy car. It feels torquier than the Saturns, but I figured out I am just keeping in a higher rev range during the commute.

The previous owner removed the A/C compressor, radiator, and pumbing in the engine bay. Those parts are quite easy to find, but you would have to figure out the proper serpentine belt length with the underdrive crank pulley.

Re: FS: 1993 Geo Storm GSi 5-speed

The 1" hollow adjustable rear sway bar I bought a couple of years ago is finally going to be installed on the Storm. I test fitted it last night and I have a few minor issues to fix, but it is looking good. This should greatly help the traction issues I've had with the car in the past. The car came stock with a 12mm solid rear bar, but I had swapped to the slightly larger 15.5mm solid rear bar from an earlier GSI. That was still too small to do much. I am also dumping the wierd rubber bushing end links for spherical bearing rod ends.

    Storm Rear Suspension

Storm GSi Rear Suspension w 15.5mm stock sway bar.

The rear sway bar is installed, but I kept the upper rubber bushing for now. The first event this weekend didn't go to well. I ended up 4th out of 9 in STS. I adjusted the end link length yesterday morning to make the bar ends a little more level and ended up with 2nd out of 4 in STS--just a few tenths away from 1st. So, I won my first trophy with the GSi, yay!

    Cornering flatter

Picture from the last autocross 2nd out of 5 in ST. The bigger sway bar was mounted using the stock sloppy upper rubber bushing, but that is now fixed:

Right side of the rear suspension of my 1993 Geo Storm GSi

New rear sway bar, endlinks, and mounts. Fully adjustable.

Nice car. I wish it were a little closer geographically. Is it still for sale?

Re: FS: 1993 Geo Storm GSi 5-speed $2000

Do you think it would weather a 14-hour trip to CT?

Is the final drive ratio stock 4.11, or not?

Not sure what you are asking, $1800 or $2000

It runs great. I would drive it anywhere. I haven't even had any trouble starting it with the cheap battery.

The final drive is stock. $2000.

    Car is sold.

    Ah, my old GSi.

     OK - who bought it??

I did replace the timing belt right before Matthew bought it from me.  This car also had an OEM Geo Storm CD player which was a very rare item.  The car would get 32 mpg on the highway.

The current owner can PM me for some other pics. of me builder the car for the GRM Challenge.

Some of those pictures were online. I may have local copies of some of them. Besides the GRM Challenge, the car also appeared on the pages and once on the cover of The Hero Driver's Journal.

I wouldn't mind getting a 1992 Isuzu Stylus RS next, but I am leaning towards a more common 325i as my next autocross car (and if I don't get sucked into the Honda Civic vortex).
