STU is on fire - top 4 PAX spots.
Is it worth mentioning that everyone in X class was intentionally put into the 2nd heat? Enjoy it while it lasts, STU
Ditto. Most of the cars in our run group were not class prepared cars, and most of us STU guys are decently prepared. The 2nd run group would have changed all that.

DRAG:It is a good thing the event was a cancelled fun run, because I was going to protest Nick. He had a 10 foot arm that comes out before the finish line to trip the beams. Ha ha...funny thing is I drag raced in the NHRA SC Series and someone in my class actually did that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jason - Nice runs man. I honestly didn't think the M3 would have that in it on a course like that. Don't give all the credit to the tires. 44.0 was not slow on that course and it grabbed my attention. I better get it together.
Will....I'd be interested in working registration and getting my work assignment done early! I'll check in next event. I can learn puter stuff fast.
{marking Dave H. and Luke W. down for registration} Thanks Evo guys! If you can get to da bus a few minutes before registration opens, I can learn ya how to check people in.
Locked:Really.. Is .001 even measurable?!
{pulls a hair out of head and shows Nick} There you go! Had this been a points event....not sure we would have posted partial results...but not even going to think about that.
BTW--- Newbie Scott T. (Gold Saturn) learned the T&S system, and was in there on the computer after first runs. Yes, he managed to NOT crash the software like I did! I got to sneak down in front of the ticket booth to check out some STU runs. All of you looked quick....and I did notice where a couple were losing time. Nice work in beating half the entrants, Nick!

Assuming you were going 50mph at the finish, that amounts to 7/8"

Thx, Can I just say that I like my offseason upgrades! The car felt really balanced and had way more grip than I was expecting. My first run I'm sure people on course could hear me yelling from excitement! Half the entrants certainly isn't all. It would have been nice to see where the x-class guys ended.
So who & where were people losing time? Tell us, tell us!
Shahab, are you photos going on the indyscca.org site? No rush, just curious.

I was going 48.8 mph at the finish according to maxQ. Fastest spot on course... The 2nd fastest was coming out of the last gate of the slalom at 45.7 mph, and the 3rd fastest was just after the first set of offsets before the offcamber left hander at 44.8 mph.

I told the one person who I thought was on the brakes a little too much in one section.....but he didn't get another chance. It was the part after the off-camber left hand turn.

Well Nick the photos will be up as soon as I can go through them all and I'll just put them on flickr and send the link to John Wilmoth like I did last year, I think that's the easiest way to do it. Btw, I guess you missed the memo that 4 wheel drive only helps when you keep all 4 on the ground! Lol
And oh yeah I'm using a Nikon D40, nothing fancy here, but I tend to make the best of what I have

I went for a ride with Jason. I'm very impressed with the car. It had a ton of grip and the power is definitely there. Jason also seems to get faster and faster every event. On the run I went along for, he made some mistakes that he will easily fix. I figured there was a low 43/high 42 out there if he nailed it. By the end of the season I think he's gonna be a contender.
You STU guys don't know how lucky you are to have 5 or 6 of you to beat up on eachother. Good stuff.

Without the rain, it would have been very different indeed. Raleigh sent Tom O'Gorman out in my car for his last run to see if Tom could crack one in the dry. His very first run in the car just as the rain started was a 42.772 with two cones that he hit because the car turned in far better than he was expecting. We talked about it later and Tom seemed to think there was a low 42/high 41 second run out there for him. If his 42.772 woud have been clean, it would have put him on the top of the pax by .6 seconds. I think it's very safe to assume he could have cleaned it up and gone a bit faster with a few more runs.

D40 is a good camera and you have some great pics. No reason to play it down. I've got to take your advice next time and work early so I can shoot during the heat I am not driving in, either that or I am gonna have to only run every other event so I can get my other fix in :) I'll go ahead and change the numbers above and pretend that's my car so I can say I ran yesterday :)

mtownneon: GChambers: The Nebulizer:
Do we have (or should we consider) some kind of backup plan if it breaks down again and Dave's master skills can't get it running on the side of the road? Could we fit everything in a pickup (or 2)?
I'm thinking I should go to a board meeting to lobby for the club to start planning for a replacement for "Da Bus". IMO, we should have started planning for this a few years ago. But, not having spoke to the board about it, I don't know if they already have a plan in place for replacement or not. I strongly feel it is something we should be looking into.
The Nebulizer:
(now I am getting really nervous about trying to design a course this year... )
Don't worry about it. I'm planning on helping.
It is something that should be discussed. The real question is can the Region replace 'Da Bus for the kind of money it has in 'Da Bus and wind up with something better?
The fundamentals of 'Da Bus are still sound. Structurally it's still for the most part in tact. Yes the sub-flooring is rusted away, and the roof leaks, but except for some "Ford" issues like it's having now, it's still mechanicly good.
It has decent compression, good oil pressure, the transmission shifts properly, rear end is quiet. There are some small electrical issues but they've mostly been dealt with over time. Right now, a new diverter valve and blocking off the EGR will solve it's current problems. It's a typical problem with Ford emission control systems from the era. I'm just upset with myself for not catching it over the winter when I had it in the shop servicing it.
If the board doesn't want any part in getting a new bus, maybe we should put forth another effort to give it a bit more of an overhaul. Maybe replace the flooring, make a strong attempt at fixing the leaks, find a replacement engine that doesn't burn a quart of oil every 30 miles, etc.
I don't have anything against this particular bus. I just think the region should have a more reliable, safer vehicle that we can count on getting to and from events.

Yeah, I don't know what to think. My car felt so different and so much easier to drive (along with tires I also added another 2 deg of neg camber up front). Usually I feel like I have to be so careful and pay attention to grip constantly to keep going the right direction. Yesterday, I just pointed the car and stepped on the gas. I was kind of in a fog from no sleep (too excited to sleep). So, I don't know what I did right - I just hope I can do it again. Maybe my old tires last season were really shot - or else I had some kind of temporary savant moment. I just know I have tried a lot harder and done a lot worse.
GChambers:You STU guys don't know how lucky you are to have 5 or 6 of you to beat up on eachother. Good stuff.
Competition is what it is all about! I am so glad I am not in a 1 car class. I have little shot at a trophy if everyone shows up, but that's fine with me. Free trophies don't interest me - I want to earn 'em.
Thanks for the ride-along Geoff. (I know I was kind of out of it - combination of heart racing like mad, brain fog, and confusion over why my car wasn't sliding.)

Wow! I had no idea. Was I the only one of the rallycars picking up a tire? Great photos!!
To my knowledge I never picked up a tire all of last year.

Jason, amazing what a good set of tires will do for you. Much better than those used suckers you were always dragging into the shop last year LOL
