Re: Single Course Pro Solo scoring changed
As someone who isn't the best in class, I kinda liked the adding of the three best runs too. But by changing the scoring, the winner will be much more likely to also be the best driver. That's fair. I just need to get better.

i disagree. anyone can have 2 good runs out of 9, nothing "pro" about that. this rewards the slow starters. and you are right, rain tires may be moot. but, if you keep the best out of 3/3/3, it will be more consistant. say it rains the first day, then everyone is scrambling the second day.

Re: Single Course Pro Solo scoring changed
Uhh...totally agreed.
I REALLY wanted to try this at Finger Lakes. Left my car in Toledo, but ALSO my TRUCK and TRAILER just to do Finger Lakes. ( Thanks Darrin Disimo for planting the seed of the idea , not sure my wallet thanks you. :) )
Oh well....dont really like the idea of it being any 2 best runs. Why the hell change it mid season. I never like talking bad publicly, but thats totally lame.
Any dual course formats left? Maybe my money will go there instead.

Re: Single Course Pro Solo scoring changed
I think this method of scoring is closer to the spirit of the dual course Pro's, but changing the rules mid-series is seriously lame. Big no-no.

Don't count out Rain Tires. Remember the DC pro in 2006 and the Monsoon on Sunday. You sure needed the rain tires if you made the challange. Said the car owner who didn't bring his rains as he was to lazy to mount them. Peter

Re: Single Course Pro Solo scoring changed
Just for enlightenment....how would one do a challenge in a single course pro. Do they even have them?

Re: Single Course Pro Solo scoring changed
Surferjer:Alternating runs, higher seed goes last I think. One run each.
That is correct. At least, that is the way it was done last year. The biggest reason for the change in scoring was to eliminate the possibility of somebody having a problem in the first heat and their weekend being effectively over that early in the event. I think I would have rather had the best two times, but with the restriction that they can not come from the same heat. That means you have to put down at least one good time on Saturday to be in it for Sunday.

Re: Single Course Pro Solo scoring changed
And after the Arkansas Pro everyone was complaining about the fact that the best run of all 3 heats added up to the final score.
I like this new method and in the Pro Solo rules it says that the rules can change at any time without notice. Now if I have my head up my butt on Saturday then I can fix it Sunday just like a true dual course pro.

I think I like that idea.
I can see the argument with the Arkansas format. I got a pretty big lead on Saturday AM that was pretty difficult to overcome as long as I didn't have a bad session. I'm not going to complain, though.
IMO, the single course pro becomes easier than a double course pro with the rule change since you only have one course to worry about and you have more shots at it. With the "not in the same heat" restriction you are still putting pressure on to get things done early, if you can.

I suggested (maybe not on here, but to friends in person...can't remember) after Arkansas that best 2 times from different heats should count instead of all 3...doesn't mean I thought it should be changed mid-year. And even if the rules say it can be done, I think it's a bad idea...just generally detracts from the integrity of the series when you change things mid-stream. Not the end of the world, just not a good idea.

Re: Single Course Pro Solo scoring changed
Interesting thread. Right after Arkansas, there was a thread were everyone suggested a scoring change (If I wasn't so lazy I'd search for it and link here). Several alternative scoring methods were given, one of which was this one. Now, people are bitching that "the people" were heard and the change was enacted.
My personal opinion is that anything which makes a single course Pro feel and run more like a traditional Pro is a plus. This "halfway to a Tour" stuff aims between two targets and hits neither. Grid/run like a Pro (your class owns the stage lane, run three and out), second-driver runs with next class, redo grid order based on previous session results (faster drivers first), and "best of" scoring (non-cumulative). I'd can go either way on whether you count best two runs from any heat or best Saturday plus best Sunday, but either is better than best of each of three heats (i.e. three-day Tour). BTW, all of this works against me personally. The previous format allowed for a number of interesting strategies to benefit one's Super Challenge chances. Not that I know anything about that... --Andy

Re: Single Course Pro Solo scoring changed
Surferjer:Andy-I was not at Arkansas. Did the run/grid thing change from last year? Last year at Finger Lakes we actually could get out of the car, water tires, etc between runs. Are we now doing consecutive runs like dual course pros?
No, it didn't change. It was kinda like a faster version of a tour grid. I think Andy was saying it *should* change, in order to be more like a dual course pro. I agree, but again, I'm not sure it's something you do in the middle of the season.
