    Navistar site lost

    All-

Just a brief note that Navistar has decided that we will not be returning to their facility for any future events.  The VP, decidedly a car guy himself, made the call, not the lawyers.

Thanks Bill!!  I am sure you did your best.  Are we working on Verizon or another site to retain our June event?

A question from outside your region. What was the reason the VP decided to discontinue?

There was an incident at the last event there 6 days ago.  It was a tenuous approval that we were there at all and it was enough to sway the other way.

That surely is a shame.  We've been running there for many years.  Anyone with contacts with someone in a company with a large lot?

I think we all owe Navistar a big thank you for all the support they have given us over the years.  We'll move on, but I know, myself, I am glad to have that as a sight for all these years.

Sucks that we lost it for sure, but I sort of expected that given the incident.

Did you see the police car course on the news the other day at Kitty Hawk?  I wonder if the airport would allow an event at the old Kitty Hawk ramp.  Couldn't hurt to ask. Smile

http://www.wane.com/Global/story.asp?s=8354144  (Bonus video at top of the story)

It's a VERY large ramp area on the far SW end of Ft Wayne Intl Airport and since Kitty Hawk left it's sitting vacant.  The Airport Authority would probably have to have some sort of security or set up barriers so nobody would stray on to the active taxiways and runway, but it would be a great place for an event.  Just a thought.

I don't work for the Airport Authority, but here's their address and phone number...

Wow, if I'm looking at the correct location, Kitty Hawk would be perfect. Don't know if they would allow it for security reasons, but I agree that it cannot hurt to ask. And it is isolated from the main terminal.

    Re: Navistar site lost

Hey everyone!  I finally joined these forums.  Have had a busy spring and now finally getting around to reading the forums.  In response to using Kitty Hawk for a site, I have heard that 1 out of 4-5 people would have to have a background check.  With my involvement in the EVOC, I talked to the Sheriff about using this site for a Tire Rack Street Survival location due to the size.  He said it would not be impossible, but very difficult to obtain all of the background checks with this type of an event.

    Re: Navistar site lost

while it is sad to see the site go.. I'm glad to see we're looking forward and moving on..

let's keep doign so, if we keep working at it.. we can still hold our June Event.

as far as Kitty hawk goes.. let's look into it...  if nothing else.  lets see what the real requirements would be.

maybe change the event format... as needed.  raise the entry fee to cover expenses of a rent-a cop (if needed... like in toledo)

if we have a core group of people who have security checks/back-ground checks, then limit.. entries based on the number of core people.. it may work.

otherwise.. let's put our collective heads together.. and see what else we can come up with... in short order...

there is plenty of paved area in the town.

should we get a committee together.???

    Re: Navistar site lost

so I think we should put together a small task force to secure some new sites..

really PR the hell out of this!!!  we should have relied on running half-our season at one event site (albeit a nice one)

What about the kroger on State/Spy run...

for that matter the AEP lot next door

LOTS of space.. it's all fenced in.. and would be EASY to control.. yet provide visibility to passers by..

we used to run at a fleetwood lot in Decatur, why don't we anymore??  they closed another location, so they have one lot.. just sitting idle.

could we use a section of the lot at the plaza off goshen rd.. where peanuts 2 used to be??

the AutoAuction on Wast Washington makes me creamy!!!

actually screw it.. both auto Auction facilities make me want to climb the walls...  as does the NAVAL facility.. too bad we didnt have a PR person to go look into thsi stuff.

Well, if you need a core group of people able to be checked out for the airport, I'd be easy to do.  I used to work at the airport for an airline and had an airport badge...plus I work full time at the Air National Guard at the airport and hold a secret security clearance.  My buddy who also wants to run in June works with me but is from the SB region SCCA.  Wink

    Re: Navistar site lost

Someone said that the Home Depot on Lake is going out of business this month... I haven't been over there to see how big and what kind of shape the parking lot is in. I wonder if it would be possible to snag that since it will be vacant soon. Not sure who to ask about that though.

Auto or people related incident?  Not that it really matters but im always curious.  I remember the first time I ran at Navistar a young man in a vette put it in the fence on the corner I worked.  Incident report for scca and a lot of concern but it worked out.

I think we should send Navistar a thank you for all thier support.

The entire leadership team at Navistar is different since then, and that was a very minor incident, such that no claim was needed against the insurance.

I sent an internal email saying such and I believe that the RE is working on something similar in an offical fashion.
