    PLEASE READ: WARNING TO AUTOCROSSERS!!!!!

This is a warning to everyone.

I just got off the phone with my insurance company (Geico) and they informed me that as of the end of the month my insurance policy is being cancelled.  Why might you ask I haven't had an accident.  No moving violations in several years.

    The answer:

"We have found out that you have participated in time trial events."

I tried to reason with the lady, and explain to her that I haven't even autocrossed with my Subaru (the car I have insured with them) and that the SCCA has their own liability insurance for their events.  She told me it didn't matter there was nothing she could do and that it was final as of 12:01 AM Jan. 28 2008 I would no longer be covered.

I guess they searched results on the internet and found my name.  I have heard of this being a problem with warranties in the past but after 4 years of autocrossing with my other company (Liberty Mutual) I had never had a problem.

So I am writing here to warn all of you that if you have Geico, cancel your policy now.  They do not respect us for what we do, and therefore I believe do not deserve a single dime from anyone.

I can see why they might hesitate with this issue as some people can't leave it on the track, but the vast majority of autocrossers are responsible enough to not do this.  If anything we are lowering the accident rate through improving our driving skills.

Re: PLEASE READ: WARNING TO AUTOCROSSERS!!!!!

I say good riddance to them!   I used to have Geico 25 years ago.  They attempt to regulate what type of car you buy.  They had a list of cars that if you bought, they'd drop you.  Perhaps that was found illegal, I don't know.  But I left them fast.

They also donate tens of thousands of dollars worth of radar guns to police departments all over the country.  They say for safety.  I say so they can raise the rates of their customers.

    Geico sucks.

I do enjoy the commercials, esp the gekko. :) Even so, we do not use Geico. --Pat K

Re: PLEASE READ: WARNING TO AUTOCROSSERS!!!!!

Since when has Geico *ever* been a good company?  Car and Driver did an article on them back in the mid 90's slamming their practices.  Basically, if you are a car enthusiast, this is not a company to insure your car with.

So it surprises me none that they are up to this stuff again.  Basically, Geico sucks.

Geico was originally GEICO, the acronym for Government Employees Insurance Company.  That should tell just how good they are.  They had to go public because they became such a joke among Fed government employees.

I guess it just never crossed my mind.  I only had them for 3 months, but it sounds like good riddance.  I just wanted to let others know so they know what can happen.  (and get rid of Geico before the same happens to them.)

Get Allstate. It's not a competetion. It's Gymkhana and called a driver skill event. If I wreck a covered car at an autocross I"m covered :)

I find it interesting that at the bottom of this page I see an ad for GEICO insurance.  It may be Oregon only, as it is next to an ad for Oregon Auto Insurance in the Ads by Google section!!!

Geico is a really creepy company. If you read the fine print (check the questionair). If you have a radar detector they will not insure you. If you have an accident and their investigator (adjustor) finds a radar detector they can and have completely denied the claim.

Re: PLEASE READ: WARNING TO AUTOCROSSERS!!!!!

This is not a new issue.  I remember that a bunch of drivers (25) from Maine many years ago were dropped because of involvement in Solo.  I photographed the headline out of North American Pylon and if I can find it will post it.

    Geico sucks.

A friend of mine posted this link on our Utah Forum.  It talks about Geico and radar guns.  jy

    Die lizard, die.

Mullen Advertising is their agency. They created the lizard and cavemen.

As noted, they fund speed detecting guns for police departments. They demand the use of non-OEM parts should you have a repair.

    Die lizard, die.

Don't go to State Farm, either. They were going to drop me for autocrossing but I quit first. That way I could say I've never been cancelled on before. Allstate is good but try not to ever bring up anything but driving between the lane markers and under the speed limit with these people. Ever.

I found out you don't have to bring anything up, they are more than capable of finding it themselves. Smile

Davebs14: Is that a common policy for Allstate?  I've been with them 7-8 years but I've never seen any clauses like that in my policy.  I'm also in TX.

I would not go with Allstate. they denied a claim a friend had. His car was damaged on a trailer while being towed. they said the damage to the car happend before the accident. Also threatend him with Fraud and eventually dropped him because it was a sponsored car thus making it a commercial vehicle, which they do not cover.

Then find another State Farm agent. I know for a fact that State Farm will cover autox and Driver's Ed events. I have had to deal with many insurance companies over the years, and have yet to have a problem with State Farm. The same can't be said for others...
