so does all this discussion mean we should abandon the SMART car STS2 project?

You are going to have to lower and widen the heck out of it to get it (the Smart) to meet the Solo rollover guidelines.

I envision sort of a car sized gimbal-ring. Driving it at speed would be kind of like the Hurl-a-Whirl at a carnival.
