Let me throw this out there. I posted this in another forum. BTW, these started as an average of 5/32nds. Don't ask about the "average".Tongue Tied

these are pictures of my Toyos. I am not disappointed. So far, I have a total of 148 runs on them. 112 in the total dry, 30 in damp/drying conditions, 6 in the pouring rain. I think there are 75+ left. 24 more will be taken at the Tour this weekend so I'll have a better idea then. FWIW, I think they feel better right now than when I first got them.

Oh, and weren't these the tires that won you the PS DX Triple Crown (Super Challenge, Honda Tuner Challenge, & Honda Showdown) this past weekend?

So much for all the fast guys switching "back" to Bridgestone.

    Big Smile

I think Glagola had it right. You can win on either of these makes.

Yes, hence the 2" "slick" area on the outside shoulder of the fronts. Both makes of tire are fast, you just have to drive a little differently on each. I like the Bridgestones as well.

    Andy,

You said you have the 205s, are you having any rubbing issues? I'm just wondering if they are too wide to fit under a Civic wheel well.

    Thanks,

    Brian

After running EL Toro, Arkansas and FTW, I am a used to much more open courses, and the car is setup for that these days. I changed the setup on every Saturday run and it was still not good enough for the tightness of the turns and to avoid all the bottoming out. Then I tried something drastic overnight which helped more, but still not enough. In the end, I gave up on trying to make it any better. Heyward swears that the Tour course will not be so tight and that it will be on the smoother part of the lot. We shall see.

    That...and I suck. Big Smile

I only had them on for two runs and only on the front. I think I heard some rubbing at full lock when maneuvering in stage lanes, but did not notice anything on course. They are mounted on 15x7.5 SSR (ET43). I'll know more on Friday.

I'm using 15X7s so I should have even less of a chance than you guys. Is there any other 15X7.5 available new other than the Rota Slipstream?

Andy, I take it your SSR wheels are not available anymore?

     Thanks,

    Brian

    Correct.

And it took major conniving/begging to get this set after my originals got stolen last summer.

Ditto here. Though it did require a 1mm spacer in ther rear to clear the 15x7.5 +40's.

I might as well throw in some cold weather data from this past weekend up in CPR region. The event was in cold/rain conditions, highs in the upper 60's. I ended up running in drying conditions but was able to get 1 mostly dry run in the 195/50R15 bridgestones and 2 more runs right after than in the toyo's. I ended up about 7 tenths faster on the R1R's however that clould have been due to additional drying on the course. During the fun runs at the end of the day it was completely dry and sunny and I was 2 seconds up on the 1 hour earlier bridgestone, which was in mostly dry/cloudy conditions. Unfortunately it rained as we were switching back to the Bridgestones, so we were unable to see if we could match the R1R times.... Sometimes the weather just sucks :(

I think the R1R's are by far a better "cold" tire. While definitely more numb they have much more grip when cool. As a note, we did not have to spray the tires at all and were doing pretty much back to back runs with only a few min to change drivers and check pressures. This is an idication of how cool it was at the CPR event. Atlanta will be totally different weather and Matt's notes about heat will come into play.

    thx

    Ian

    Re: Toyo>Bridgestone?

This being my first season in STS I'd like to say holy smokes this is a fun class!!!

Having tried both the Toyo's and Bridgestone's going by feel alone the Bridgestone's are better in the dry. The Bridgestone's take more abuse and all and all feel sharp and precise. The Toyo's are numb and if abused wear like race tires. I know that Tim and Matt are getting decent life out of their Toyo's but I have personally seen them melt away when driven past the limit: 4/32's to 1/32 in 15 runs (on a 90 second course).

I'd like to thank Brian Bell for letting me drive his hatch and for the time and effort he has put into testing both tires and set-up's to get the car where it is now. The car is a pleasure to drive and I look forward to more close battles like the last couple weekends!

Does anyone really care about the Kumho XS, since it isn't legal for competition this year?

That can be worried about next season, and since the XS seems to be targeted as a replacement for the MX, I don't have much faith in it.

I am still pissed at Kumho for not releasing the 245/45ZR16 v710...

I am looking forward to the new Bridgestone RE-11 for next season more than any other upcoming tire right now.

Me too! I found this Japanese tire size list for the RE-11's, There's some pretty interesting sizes. It will be interesting to see which sizes actually make it here. I am hoping the 225/45/16 is one of them.
