so if I wanted to get into time attack...

my goal right now is to get into time attack. I was curious whats the best way to get into it? anyone outside of Redline and NASA organize it? any special license? Just wanted to make sure Im taking the right steps to get myself and the car ready.

There are no special requirements to run the Redline TimeAttacks, but they do want you to have some seat time in PDX/HPDE programs because the passing is fairly open and it is a more competitive enviroment.

There is also the Club Trials and Time Trials program via the SCCA which for some reason we wont put on here (level 2 and 3 events, with the PDX program being level 1).  For level 2 you dont need much more than what you would have prepped for autoX, level 3 starts requireing more safety and liscencing prep.

NASA also offers HPDE's and a time attack program but I do not know much about them.

So all in all, start out with some PDX's (we've got a few coming up later this month) or some HPDE's offered by the various other car clubs in the area.

Ditto what Terec said. Try a few HPDE's (NASA HPDE, SCCA PDX, Midwest Council High Speed Autocross, BMW Club DE's, etc.) and when you feel comfortable sharing the track with other cars you are ready for Time Attack. I'll send you an email with my Time Attack schedule for the year. I would love to have you come with me to an out-of-town event to crew, spectate, take photos, ask questions, etc.

+1 on the above suggestions. Get thee to the SCCA PDX on the 21st and the 24th! The BMW club is also holding driving event the weekend of June 7th and 8th. If you are still happy after all three of those (and you will be!) James is the best bet locally for information about getting into the Time Attack program.

so what does HPDE mean? James, it would be pretty sweet to join you on an out of town trip... I think that ride got me hooked.

HPDE Stands for High Performance Driving Event or High Performance Driving Experience. I've seen it listed as both. SCCA has PDX, NASA has HPDE.
