Blytheville has been asking the Arkansas and Mid South Regions to have events there. So, there is intrerest on the part of the community, and parking ramp is certainly big enough.

Just a guess, but I don't imagine Blytheville is a realistic, long term solution for Nationals.I don't think it could ever draw anywhere close to the numbers needed to make for a true "National" event.

Hmm, let's see. Walmart close by? Check. Hotels? Check. Big open expanse of pavement? Check. restaurants? Check.
Only downside for us is we won't get a laugh as we go through Effingham, IL anymore.

Yeah, what John said. Why would Blytheville NOT be a good solution? Relatively centered in the country, food, store, rooms, and a gazillion acres of pavement !!!!!!!!!!!!! What's not to love. Even hangers for tech, and other functions. Maybe even shelter for vendors. And it's all just sitting there begging to be used.

West coast folks probably won't be too keen on it.

It adds 450 miles to my trip (each way), and pushes the drive from a long two days to three days. It adds a similar distance for all the California drivers as well.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
Yep, the added 500 miles is a problem, putting the tow at almost 2200 miles, each way...that's quite a haul. But, the bigger issue is what you get, once you get there...the only possible redeeming quality might be the actual autocross surface. I'm just not hard core enough to even consider going to those lengths to chase cones.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
Blythville looks great to me. But it only adds 100 to 150 miles to my trip. For eveyone that has to travel further its probably closer for someone else. (prbably balances out the attendance) I guess I never really thought of Topeka KS as a cultural mecca. No offense to the locals but would any of us ever go to Topeka for a reason other than Nationals? Maybe to the NHRA races. Shoot your closer to some real vacation spots in Arkansas with the Ozarks near by. (If you like camping and fishing) And who knows you might even meet one of Bill C's old girlfriends.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
Thusfar, Blytheville looks like an awesome solution. Room for two massive courses. Paddock on the runways, which means everyone has concrete to park / wrench on, but a grassy spot a few feet away. Looks like excellent views of the course area. And if the rumor is true that they want us there, then I really don't see how it gets much better.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Finale? Not only where but when?
Yeah, Blytheville is an idyllic spot...just ask the 25% of the population that has fled the town over the last 5 years, due to no jobs and high crime rates...
OK, I'm just pissed because you guys are all supporting a spot which is a frickin' long way from where I am...and, the only ones who seem to support the site seem to live relatively close by...hmmm, maybe there's some type of correlation, there...

I vote for the East Coast Nationals in Blytheville, and the West Coast Nationals at El Toro.

PRO: Concrete
PRO: almost 200 miles closer for me than Topeka
CON: Nationals, in SEC country, during the college football season? I can hear the banjos already.

Pro for me is a 1 day drive instead of 2. And that much less $$$ for tow vehicle gas.
If traction is good, then that's great!
As for SEC country during football season, WTF?--I've lived and autocrossed in all 4 corners of the continental U.S. and a number of places in between, and just don't get the prejudices of some areas against others.....

If it's large, good concrete (not that Walnut Ridge stuff), and has hotels...I'm in.
And Mike, didn't you used to fly into Topeka? What's the difference in flight time?

I'm all ears for a place that looks as good and is 300 miles the opposite direction.

I only flew in to KC once, when I was just running the Pro Finale in 2006. Last year, I towed the RX8 behind the motorhome to Topeka, staying for both the Pro and Nationals, which required two weeks time and close to 500 gallons in gas...ouch...and that was at $3/gallon.\
You make a very important point about the concrete...is it any good? We have one site out here, Crow's Landing, that is concrete and will eat a new set of Hoosiers in a weekend, it's so abrasive. On the other hand, there are also concrete sites that are literally crumbling, being over 60 years old...
