Road Racers welcome here too :)

I've been noticing lately that our Region forum is mostly Autocross people and wanted to make the Road Racers feel welcome too.  20 of the current 25 posts on the front page are Solo related, with one PDX and a couple random ones.  It's great that all the Solo people use the forum and I hope you continue to.  I know most of the Road Racers have their own class forums that they frequent, but wanted to throw this up here anyway.

I'll start with a "where are you racing this year" thread.  I'm thinking about MAM at the end of this month for the regional event and definitely going to Topeka for the event in June. I'd be more inclined to go to MAM if I knew others from the area were going too.  After that, my work schedule will limit me to Gateway in Aug. & Oct.  The only other possibities are CenDiv races later in the summer.

Trey and I still are on track for a busy schedule this summer. Depending on how our Memphis weekend goes will determine the rest of the events. Since we now own another ITB Bimmer Trey will be getting priority in the POS-7.

     Here goes!

SCCA STL PDX on the 21st

    SCCA Memphis on Memorial weekend

BMWCCA club racing school event chairman June 6th thru the 8th

SCCA Nashville (maybe!) end of June

SCCA Hallett over 4th of July weekend

NASA enduro at Autobahn mid July (I am doing double duty in two Bimmers!)

SCCA STL PDX make up date??????

    SCCA STL August

    SCCA MAM August

    SCCA STL October

I've been wanting to get into road racing... quite badly, actually.  My fear of becoming a rolling chicane and lack of funds has prevented that so far, though.  I figure my 240SX can be an EP car, but reading over the Production class rules is confusing for a new guy.  I guess that leads me to two questions:

    1. Can PDX'ing count as the required schooling?

    2. Does my 240SX, falling into STS solo-wise with maxed out suspension, minimal engine upgrades, and STS-legal width/diameter/compound tires and rims... fall into EP?

I'm sure someone that actually knows will chime in, but I'd bet your car would work well in ITA.  EP is another possiblity but you will be at the back of that group unless you spend a lot and will also share the track with really fast GT cars.  IT is the perfect starting point.  Do not worry about being a rolling chicane, as I was one too and there are always some out there.  You have to start somewhere, even it is at the back.

PDX is the perfect place to start for track time. Novices are engouraged to start here. You will get experienced instructors working with you throughout the day. Many are club racers themselves. Go to DLB and register for one of the next events. You will not be disappointed.

You'll want to stay away from Production if you ever use the term "budget". It's much cheaper to remove any parts and convert to IT specs than to play the Prod. game. Besides, suspension is fairly open in IT as long as your mounting points and "type" of shock are stock. The thing you really have to watch is the engine upgrades and wheel widths. No out of spec cams, intakes etc. 15x7 max on wheel size. Once you get the car up to the pointy end of the grid, you can start converting to Production and start double dipping on race weekends and get tons of seat time.

The PDX program is a great way to start. WAY more seat time than you'll ever get during a club race weekend, and if you're having troubles with a corner, an instructor can ride along and give some pointers... not gonna happen at a club race Wink

    "Rolling chicane"

Heck, that's half the fun seeing how many dollars you can hold up while only having spent pennies!

Ha, the intent of the thread was to get present road racers involved in the forums, but as far as I'm concerned, it's ended up getting a soloist involved in road racing (in ITS), too! Big Smile  I'm definitely going to be at the next PDX now!

I'm putting together a new car this year and subsequently won't be doing much racing.

Fingers are crossed for the ARRC race in November ( http://www.arrc-online.com/ ), but I've got a long way to go still.

As far as Plan B Racing's schedule goes.... pretty typical of a team titled Plan B.

Family obligations and a full cage schedule are 86ing our schedule for the year.

Re: Road Racers welcome here too :)

Chris D     The PDX's will not count as your school, but they WILL help with your "schooling". Any track time will help you learn how to drive the track, but the "Racing Schools" will provide you with other skills as well. And Soloists make the quickest learners. Wink

BUDSKi and Chris D     Why come out and just "watch" the racing when you can participate? Don't just look on from the paddock, sign up to work corners. It is the closest you can be to racing and not be in the car. You will see the cars and track from better perspective and be able to study the "lines" taken by others both when running alone (PDX) and in traffic (racing). You will also learn the flags and proceedures used by the corners which you will also have to know to pass the "schools". You will be able to learn much without having to bounce your own vehicle off the tire walls. Oh, and you get to watch the racing as well. You will get free lunch both days as well as the dinner and "beverage" on Saturday evening.  Beer

The Region would appreciate your efforts at PDX's, but the Racing events are where you will really learn a lot about Racing overall. Next Race weekend is August 2 - 3 and you will find the members involved there just as friendly and willing to help you as they are in Solo.  Yes
