    new bee questions (sorry)

    Hi Guys,

Sorry, but I am a new bee with questions.

I would like to take my Trans Am out on the auto cross track for a few runs, and I am not sure where to start.

    I am looking at http://www.stlscca.org/Default.aspx?tabid=1

I see the schedule, but am not sure what I am looking at.

I see PDX, Solo Points Event, Rally Cross, and when I look at registration it talks about a ‘Valid SCCA License’, and I am not sure how you would get that.

I’m not sure where to start, so I hope you all can help me.

    Thank you in advance,

    Jeff O.

    Re: new bee questions (sorry)

I’m sure other will chime in, but come out this Sunday! That is the best way to start. There you will be able to learn the registration process, do the novice walk, meet other drivers (who will help you out), get a loaner helmet, and of course race!

you can find more local autocross stuff here...

    http://www.stlsolo.org/

    and of course novice info....

welcome to solo, and dont be afraid to ask any questions, I'm a newbie myself and had to go down this road already.

    Re: new bee questions (sorry)

For Solo (autocross), you need a valid state driver's license.  And you need $40 of which $30 is the entry fee and $10 is for a weekend SCCA membership.  Come out to Gateway about 7:30 or so this Sunday and tell people you are new.  You'll get help or pointed to someone who can help.  In the meantime, check out our website at http://www.stlsolo.org.  And feel free to ask more questions here.

    Re: new bee questions (sorry)

Jeff, No SCCA license is required for autox but you either have to be a full SCCA member or you can purchase a weekend membership for $10 in the St. Louis region. Other than that, you can just show up and ask at the gate for someone to point you to the Novice Chief and we will get you started in the right direction. You can also ask for help at the temporary membership signup area the John or Mirna Schmid who are in charge of that area will hook you up with someone who can help.

If you want to compete and you are under 18 you will need a copy of the minor waiver printed in color signed by both parents or you legal guardian and then notarized or witnessed by an adult full SCCA member. Out next autox here in St. Louis is at Gateway International this Sunday and for participants you need to arrive by no later than 7:30 but 6:30 would be better. That would give you plenty of time to get hooked up with someone who can walk you through the checkin process and get you familiar with the process.

    Hope to see you Sunday.

    Re: new bee questions (sorry)

There's an event on Mother's Day at the track that we're all geared up for.  In case you haven't read through the novice section, it's at http://www.stlsolo.org/Novices/tabid/58/Default.aspx

If you still don't understand something, none of us bite here on the forums :).  Otherwise, you can literally just show up at the event on Sunday and approach anyone at all and tell them that you're new, and they'll at least point you in the right direction of someone that can get you started.

As already stated for solo, you only need a valid state drivers license (if under 18 for PDX - contact us to get prior approval for you) and a valid SCCA membership.  Memberships can be annual at $75 or a First Gear for those 24 and under at $45 or each program (PDX, Solo, or RallyCross will sell you a weekend membership- at Solo it's $10 at PDX it's $15- not sure how RallyCross handles this)

You can click on the program tabs from www.stlscca.org or go straight to the Solo Site (www.stlsolo.org ) or PDX (www.stlpdx.com ) or RallyCross (www.stlrallyx.org )  for more info on each program.

Its for everyone! The Divisional series is a way to create competition among other parts of our area.Out of town drivers will be from Kansas City, Iowa, Oklahoma and Arkansas. There will be some serious, well prepared drivers and cars, but the goal is the same, to have fun driving and competing with friends for a couple of days. IMO autocross is first and foremost about competing with yourself to be the best you can be in whatever you drive.

So come out and have fun.

    Re: new bee questions (sorry)

    Jeff,

As mentioned earlier, you can start with me.  My wife and I can usually be found under a white tent near registration.  Either of us will be glad to help you get acquainted with the process.  You will need to preregister for this event.  If needed, you can check out the other post on this forum for how to get preregistered.

We look forward to seeing you on Memorial Day,

    John
