    Questions for the 18th event

The 4th I did my first every autocross event with WAI and I loved it.  Now I am looking foward to do the SCCA even on the 18th.  I had the Silver EP.  Since this event I leanred that my EP needed some work mostly in brakes so I have that fixed in the front now with HP+ pads and powerslot rotors.  I also have done a few other small things to help me out to get my EP more setup for racing.  I have some questions since I am going from a WAI event to a SCCA event.  My first is if I want to run at a Chicago event does the WI membership transfer over to them?  I am in northern IL so I it is a little over an hour drive to WI or IL events for me.  I want to do the $80 membership when I sign up at the track.  2nd when I was at the WAI event it was said at many of the SCCA events you can buy your car numbers there.  I am wondering does anyone know the cost at the track for them?  I am having a local shop get me a qoute this week.  I want to have to the number 46 but I am not sure if it is taken for the STS class so I am going to get a 346 done for incase it is when I go to the track.

Thanks and I can not wait to get racing again this next weekend.

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Most people buy magnet material and cut their own numbers but there is a sign guy that makes it to events every now and then. Your membership will transfer to any SCCA club.

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Here is the website for the K&M magnetics.  http://www.kandmmagnetics.com/ You might want to shoot them an email or phone call to see if they are planning on coming to any local events anytime soon.  I can't remember exactly how much it was per letter 4-8 bucks per rings a bell (don't hold me to that).  Otherwise you can do what Roy said and cut your own.  I bought a roll of white magnet sheet and printed out numbers from my computer and used an exacto knife to cut it.

As far as modification recommendations take a look at the SCCA rule book before you start buying to many parts.  http://www.scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=61  Certain mods may bump you into a higher class if your not careful.  Maybe the class doesn't bother you, in that case do what your comfortable with, but I know I like being competitive.  If you build your car to the class you can save some money and be competitive.  Example: I used to have a carbon hood on my 240 and that bumped me from STS to Street mod where I was not competitive.

I'm glad to hear that you had a good first experience!  I was driving one of the Red EFs.

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Yea I am checking before I buy and install.  I am in STS right now and that is where I want to stay.  My mods that I am doing is what other members in the STS class said have helped them a lot.  Their feedback is being a great help to me. I just got lucky with mods I did before starting racing that I stayed in STS.

Thanks for the link.  BTW where is the best place to get get a role to cut?  Just craft stores?

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Good to hear that your on the right track for mods.  Talking to people and the forums will be a great help for you setting up your car.

I got mine at Hobby Lobby in Racine.  Craft stores would work, hobby shops, and the internet.  A quick google search could probably get you about 10000000000 sites to buy magnetic material from :).  It might take a couple days for shipping but the internet would have the correct color and size. Good luck.

    Thanks,

I have one of them in my area I will check and see what they have.  I checked the link I am looking at over $50.  So if I can save the cash I might do a DIY.

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Last I heard, John from K&M won't be in Milwaukee until the June 7-8 weekend.   However, he can ship stuff out.

http://www.scca-milwaukee.org/Membership/Membership.html has SCCA membership info.  Once you're a member of one club (Milw or Chicago) you can become a dual member for another $20 and be eligible for season points with both clubs.  If you're just looking for the discounted entry fee you only need to be a member of one club.  Contact Desiree McCardle if you have more membership questions -  414-750-2722 or desiree.mccardle at delcity.net

The 18th will be a half lot event so we'll be griding on the north end of the north lot.  This means paddocking along the curbs or in the Sausage Haus lot across the creek.  Security will be a worker position during the event but everyone should keep an eye out and lock up any valuables.  I'm looking for someone to help me set up the course on Sat evening around 6pm, PM me if interested.  This would count as your work assignment.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Just wondering since I am new does that mean a smaller course?  If I lived in the area I would do the setup.  Just living in IL would not work to well.

Thanks for the heads up about the parking.  I took some tools to the last event I work for snap-on so that is all I have.  Did not need them last time so not taking this time now for sure.  At least I leanred how to strip down my car the last event so everything removeable except for the spare is staying at home.

I went to a craft place and got the magnet role but cut some numbers and is a bust.  Just does not stick to the car that well. :(  Guess I will have to tape tape this week and order the good stuff.  O well.

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Our course designers make very efficient use of the limited space in the parking lot.  So the courses take up less space but depending on the design and flow might not be any faster.

Don't give up on your magnets right away.  I had the same problem with my magnets, they seemed like they were to stiff to stick and didn't want to sit flush on the car.  At the first event I let them sit on the hood of my car and once the sun heated them up a little bit they seemed to stick better.  Now they work perfectly.

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Ok might try that with the magnets.  It should cost me $20 to make them.

BTW I am seeing there is a good chance of rain.  I know it is early in the week but dowe run in the rain?  I know most run street tires so I would think we would be good but not sure about the timing equipment.

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Autocross runs rain or shine, unless lightening shows up.  Severe weather/rain may cancel or cause an event delay.

As for numbers, I'd suggest just getting some pre-made ones done right the first time.  I went the cheap route at first and made my own, but eventually the scraggly numbers I made just weren't giving off the image I wanted to project, lol. It's a small investment that'll last you for years.

I have to say this was a lot of fun today.  I think my 4th run might have been my best from how it flet but I did not stay for the postings so have to wait.

Re: Questions for the 18th event

Glad you had fun.  I did not, coned all day and broke the car.  The extent of the damage, yet to be determined.  The fiancee was too cold to take her afternoon runs and I needed the car to get us home so running the car two more times could have prevented a way back home.  I am curious to see how she did in STS.
