ShimmySideways Goes Green! View the new Livery!

To my friends in the St. Louis Region SCCA,

It is with great pleasure that I announce that ShimmySideways Racing has a new Title Sponsor for our 2008 Time Attack campaign!  Our new title sponsor is Takata, a leading global supplier of automotive safety systems.  Takata has an excellent reputation in motorsports for their high quality Takata Multi Point Harnesses which are Green in color.  Our agreement with Takata will take our team to new heights in the sport of Time Attack as we challenge the best in the sport at Time Attack events nationwide.  Our team shall henceforth be known as Takata Time Attack and we invite you to add TakataTimeAttack.com to your bookmarks.  With the additional support of subsidiary sponsors P&L Motorsports, Nitto Tire, and Nukabe, the Takata Time Attack team will most certainly be one of the most competitive teams in the sport.

    Takata Logo

To welcome Takata as our new Title Sponsor, one of our first orders of business is to replace the livery on the ShimmySideways STi with graphics that promote Takata and their "Go For Green" slogan.  I am excited to announce that we have partnered with Turn 10, the developer of Microsoft's hit videogame racing series Forza Motorsport for Xbox 360, to conduct a contest to design the livery for our car.  The contest is already underway at ForzaMotorsport.net.  Visit the links below for my interview with Turn 10, the contest details, and the livery submissions.  If you own an Xbox 360 and a copy of Forza Motorsport 2, you could design the livery that appears on the ShimmySideways STi as it tours the nation in addition to winning some amazing prizes, including a Takata Multi Point Harness (MSRP $400).

    Thanks for your support!

You saw that the P&L money shot you staged with James got great placement in the article right?  It is an amazing photo!

I actually lost a bit of soda when I read "Turn10" and then went to the Forza 2 page and there it was, staring me in the face.  This is amazing!  Great job!

I agree. The first one will look too muddy at speed. Bold clear graphics win everyday.

To make a final decision you need to show them to a group like flash cards, 1 or 2 sesonds per image in rapid order, then ask what design they remembered. That's the one you need.

Overall I like the second one referenced above, although something about it seems like it belongs more on an Evo (aka Seamus Burke's rally car?).  Could just be the shade of green and the amount of green on Seamus' cars throughout the years.

Re: ShimmySideways Goes Green! Design my new Racecar!

I described an idea to James, I have no video game experience, so wouldn't know where to start to try to make one of those slick renderings, so I'll describe my idea.

The sponsor is a seat belt company (statement of the obvious), so their goal would be to see everyone using their seatbelt.  My thought is to have the larges image of the product on the largest visible panel on the car and that the image be something similar to what you would get if you took the driver's seat out of the car, strapped the driver into the seat, and photographed the driver wearing the harness zoomed in on the buckle.

The background color of the car would be the color of the racing suit (I don't know what the factory racing suit is, but hope it would be a contrasting color to the green of the belt).  I think I see white with green epaulettes on the photos above.  I'm thinking white for the background body color, possibly with stitching details to make the skin of the car look more like the fabric of a racing suit.  On the hood of the car, in as large as is possible, the buckle in silver.  The shoulder harnesses (16 inches wide) are interrupted by the windshield of the car, with the logo pads across the roof just above the doors on the left and right side.  The crotch belt (they actually call it a crotch belt, I'm not being course) would be in an inverted "V", diagonally to the lower left and right corners of the front bumper.  Down the sides, the waist belt, 16 inches wide, with the company name printed on the green stripe.  Basically, looking at the front of the car would be like looking into the lap of a driver wearing the company product.

Re: ShimmySideways Goes Green! Design my new Racecar!

So if you're soliciting votes for the current submissions, I change my mind to this one, only with WRB in place of the white.

    http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2289/2470279450_3b7a83c143_o.jpg

Or I like this one as is if you wanna paint your car white http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2284/2476569094_8b87b5edd4_o.jpg

Most of em so far seem pre-occupied with making the car all green and white, but seems to me it should have some blue in there.

Painting the car is not out of the question.  In fact, I'm planning on it.  I like the green and white ones, but I would like to see a few more with WRB as the base.

it'll be interesting to see what the finalist.

    some really great looking cars.

Will you get to meet to person who wins? that'd be cool to get them entry to the time attack premier of their design.

another great sponsoring idea by james to get the word out about timeattack! Congrats!

Very cool, James. I hope you'll remember us when you're famous! Wink

I'll cast another vote for this one. Aside from looking good, I like the belt theme, so that it actually shows what you're promoting:
