    Congrats to SCCA

Congratulations go out to SCCA for killing off SS.

This past week-end at Blackhawk Farms there was a grand total of 1 SSB and SSC cars racing.  A few years ago, I remember fields of 20 SS cars at the same race.

Could it be that letting the $30k plus overdog Z4 into SSB wasn't such a good idea?

Or maybe putting the peppy little Mini-Cooper S into SSC was wrong?

Or even giving the Solstice the world had something to do with it.

How about splitting up the Central division into two seperate divisions because the "minds" couldn't get along?

Nah... that couldn't be it.  I wonder...

Good job SCCA... keep up the good work.

Hey, you left out the MX-5 MSR debacle!  And, if that wasn't enough, the economy isn't exactly helping either.

I feel the pain but on the bright side, I'm still here racing and hoping to make things better.

    Re: Congrats to SCCA

I agree with all of those SCCA issues, but the fact remains, SSC in CenDiv sucks!!!

I was that sole racer (driver) last weekend and with another event coming up at Blackhawk on May 17-18, I'm just not going to do it , unless there's another (or more) SSC car.

I've done everything I can do to help, and I'm sorry to say the only thing left to do is to sell my car and get into a class were "Racing" actually means "Racing" against other cars.

The SCCA depleated SSC in CenDiv by creating the Great Lakes division along with a few bad ideas on car choices, etc. etc that's plain to see. I'm not sure any of that will ever change. As as group, what can SSC racers do to help?

So in one last effort to save it and save my Mazda, PLEASE CONSIDER COMING TO BLACKHAWK MAY 17-18!!!

Or, who do you know that would like to buy a perfect condition 2004 Mazda 3? Really. Somebody buy my car and take it to a division where SSC lives!!

    Re: Congrats to SCCA

I agree SCCA did put a hurt on SSC

However there has been some good things lately - extended the 10 year to the last year of that model.

SE Dev has a decent turn out for SSC - March 2nd we had 7 cars, March 23rd we had 9 cars, and this past weekend we had 7 cars.

Hopefully SCCA will continue improve the SSC Class

    Re: Congrats to SCCA

Don't be fooled. The Cooper S killed the class. Look how many drivers were from C and moved to be because of that car alone, including people who went out and actually bought Coopers because it was the car to have.

Now the B fields are getting larger and there are quite a few ex-C Coopers there.

What is going to fix the showroom stock class? This is supposed to be the cheapest and easiest class to get into. To be really competitive, one need a full set of tires per weekend. Do the math. To be competitive, and I mean top 5 runoffs competitive, one needs a top quality built race car. There are still some Civics floating around with great builds that are going for cheap right now. My old car just sold for $6,000! I kick myself every day for selling that car, but considering what the CRB was doing at the time, I had no other choice. If you don't get a Civic, then its either a Cobalt, or a 3. Maybe the Carolla will make it this year. All these cars, minus the Civic are well over $10k for clean, well prepped examples.

Most of the guys that come out and race nationally are in this ultra small percentage of the population that has $20,000-$30,000 of disposable income to drop on 1 race season. That doesn't inlcude the cost of the car, truck, or trailer. For those that do actually have that kind of cash, why race in Showroom Stock? It doesn't cost that much more to go faster.

There are two main reasons I see people staying away:

    1. No trust or faith in the process of car equalization.

    2. Cost

The economy is slow right now. The CRB is confused. The split between the divisions was strange and didn't seem to do much other than confuse people and make us all wish it never happened.

Its no wonder I let my membership expire.

I know a certain someone who is going to most likely buy that 00 Red Si in TX and will be having it up here for cendiv races. :D

Gotta agree that SSC is in trouble, we need new cars, and in this economy not many new cars will be built.

But, I have to congratulate the Club for moving the Runoffs to Road America!  This is a huge plus for the Club!

See thread on T1,2,3 forum for more info, and save me some 2009 brats for next Septembers first Runoffs at Elkhart Lake!

    Re: Congrats to SCCA

Road America is the perfect choice for th Runoffs.

I know that the minute you arrive in Elkhart Lake you'll relize that the entire community will embrace you. This is not a place where on worthless land near a power plant, somebody decieded to drop a race track. This is a world class facility.

This is a place where when Brian Redmond comes to town for Vintage car races, downtown Elkhart shuts down all the streets for a car show.

Like LD said, this is a place with history, where a win means something.  You may want to start thinking about doing some National races at RA from now until then.  June Sprints are only a month away.

    Re: Congrats to SCCA

I know this thread started on a note about SS and those conditions causing issues - but it is what it is for now.  I don't think any single thing has led to the issues but I think we all have to deal with the hand that reality dealt us.  I'm having to doit and we all need to assess our plans.

I saw NASA licenses will be accepted at SCCA Regional events - that might be a positive boost.

On a different note,  I agree with Gino that moving the Runoffs to RA is great news - and now Gino you should see lots more of us up North !!  ;-)

Since I was asked to haul the little red beast up your way, I already knew the answer. But, the big question is, ya'll gonna run it at the sprints?  JM

I'll be the one picking it up at the sprints. My dad got in a motorcycle accident and won't be healed by the sprints. And I don't have my national license so I can't run.

Once he is healed up we will be racing against each other- he said he can't wait to give me a "donut" on the side of my car. Nice dad huh?

    See you boys out there.

Let me know if you want to rent the car. I may know someone.

Are you going to run the Regional on the 31st and the 1st? I may be up to check out Sundays race.

Yeah if someone wants to rent the black one for the sprints they are more then welcome to it. just send them myself or my dads way.

I will be at the race on the 31/1. Parents are coming up too. :) Hope to see you there.

Quick Question: If I have a bunch of people coming up and I only have 3 free and 3 paid spots how do I get more people in? They are willing to pay.

Many bad decisions over the past 10 years have killed both SSC and SSB.  I made the move to Spec Miata last year.  What a blast!  Big competitive fields, relatively low cost and low maintenance - plus the cars are fun to drive.   Come on over!
