FS: CSP 85 CRX, Nationals trophy winner

    Nationals trophy winner in 2004 . . .

Up for sale is my 85 CRX that is prepped to SCCA Solo CSP rules. I hate to get rid of the car, but I'm just too danged old to drive it to events, and I'm tired of digging it out of its cave every time we have an event. So I'm changing classes to something more comfortable to drive to events. I'm sure I'm forgetting information now, and I'll update as I think of more items, but here are the specs:

1985 Honda CRX HF, chassis shows 114K miles, body has a couple dings, but is very presentable and shines really well, minor rust above both rear wheels, minor rust in the spare tire well

Engine: BRAND NEW with only one event on it, built to CSP rules using OEM Honda parts, head ported 1" per CSP rules, aluminum crank pulley, DC Sports ceramic header, 2.25" exhaust with Magnaflow muffler, custom aluminum intake manifold, 38mm Keihin motorcycle carbs, electronic adjustable rev limiter, lightweight battery, Phantom Grip LSD

Chassis: Energy Suspension poly bushing kit, front Koni adjustable shocks rebuilt last year, shortened and revalved, 27.5mm torsion bars, HF front sway bar with poly bushings on endlinks, OPM aluminum camber/caster plates, rear Koni adjustable shocks (top adjustable), Ground Control coilovers, 400# rear springs

Interior: Corbeau driver's seat, Schroth harness, Grant steering wheel, oil pressure gauge in radio delete plate

     Wheels/tires: 13x9 Keiser (2) & 13x9 Real Racing (2) and 215/50R13 Kumho V710 with lots of grip

    OR

13x8 Diamond Racing wheels (4) and 235/45R13 Kumho V700 that are okay but old

    All wheels have 5" backspacing

Car comes with small array of spares, but nothing to get too excited about. This car is streetable and was street driven for the first few months I had it, but I can't handle those 400# rear springs any more. The car is not currently registered but could be.

This car is extremely quick, as I can keep up with a Super Stock driver who placed at the top of the trophies at Nationals last year. The PAX indexes for the two classes are nearly the same, so it serves as a good comparison. In the hands of a much more capable driver, this car trophied 8th at Nationals 3 years ago. Since then, I have lightened the car, rebuilt the shocks, and rebuilt the engine. The car weighs about 1580 pounds with 3 gallons of gas. The recent engine rebuild was done by the same gentleman who built the engine for the trophy win, and the dyno pull 3 years ago showed 106 hp and 96 lb/ft of torque from 2800 to 7000 RPM at the wheels.

I also have a custom-built trailer that I would like to sell with the car, but I could separate them. The trailer is a 2002 model that was custom built for a Toyota MR2 Spyder. It is only 16 feet long, with a 12 foot long deck. It has a single 3,500 pound axle and electric brakes. It is very light at around 700 pounds. I just installed new tires on the trailer and on the spare wheel. EDIT 5/18/08: TRAILER IS SOLD.

Pricing: CRX with 13x8 wheels: $4000

    CRX with 13x9 wheels: $4500

    Trailer alone: $1200

Trailer with the CRX: add $1000

Send me a PM or e-mail for any questions.  I'll post again with pictures by tomorrow.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Re: FS: CSP 85 CRX and custom trailer

I'm new to autocross. I've been co-driving a 1997 BMW 328 in novice STX class. I'm looking to buy my own car and this one caught my eye. How would you say this car would feel power and speed-wise compared to the BMW? I really don't know that much about cars so please bear with me. :) Also, could I pull this car on the trailer with a four-cylinder Mazda Protege 5, or would it be too heavy?

Tow with a Protege?  Are you serious?

Very cool car, BTW.  I wish I had the time and space for it.

Re: FS: CSP 85 CRX and custom trailer

I think I can reply to this one since I'm the previous owner of the car. It is going to be much faster than your bmw co-drive and at a fraction of the cost too. I would say on a fifty second course it should be 2 seconds faster.

Re: FS: CSP 85 CRX and custom trailer

Yep, it's Ron's old car.  It was a lot faster when he was behind the wheel . . .

This car runs head to head with Super Stock, which is quite a bit faster than STX.  I really enjoy driving it, but I'm going for something more butt-friendly to drive to and from events.

PENDING SALE ON THE TRAILER . . . looks like I'll be using a tow dolly for the next event if the car is not sold.

Re: FS: CSP 85 CRX and custom trailer

Okay, so I can't tow it, but the car is not street drivable correct? It has too many mods to pass inspection right?

Re: FS: CSP 85 CRX and custom trailer

What kind of inspection do they have where you live?  The car is 100% street legal except for not having a catalytic converter.  Throw a cat on it, and you may be good to go.  It probably runs cleaner than a stock 23 year old CRX would.

The trailer is gone, so I'll be renting a tow dolly for any future events.  You could do the same (although maybe not with a Protege).  Let me know if you have any other questions.

I didn't mention it in my original post, but the price is OBO.

    Thanks.

Re: FS: CSP 85 CRX, Nationals trophy winner

I know the trailer is sold, but I have a spyder, and I am really interested in who built the trailer, etc.  If I had seen this earlier I would have jumped on it.....   Now I still want one.  Any help?

    hey, it's a bump, right?

WTB: CSP Spyder parts. What you got?

Get in touch with Eric Beutzer in Topeka.  He had the trailer built for his Spyder.  He could give you the specifics of where it came from.

I think Clancy Schmidt built it. I could be wrong, but he is currently the equipment manager for the national solos.

Yes, Clancy built it. He built mine too. They're great trailers. However I'm not sure if he's doing it anymore.
