So early on in this, and other threads, there was alot of discussion about the S2000 CR in AS.  But it seems like once it was classed it has gone silent.  Whats the deal?  I didn't see one in the results from the 1st Tour so no data point there.  What about regionally?  Anybody know of any relevant regional results?
I saw one run while I was down in Houston with a pretty decent S2K driver in it...If you ask me Astock will be a spec class of CR's within a couple of years...ok maybe not, but I would say without a doubt it is going to be the car to have.

It should be marginally better than your average AP2.  I would think at HPT the AP2 would be a better or at least equivalent car to an AP1.  An AP1 won AS at 2007 Nats.  Therefore I would expect the CR to be a pretty damned good car.

I suspect the Z0K will still be the car to have when all is said and done.

Re: Best Cars For 2008 Stock Classes

The GXP has the torque, the good chassis, the 285s all around, but crappy gearing. Even still I think it's the top car. I think the CR will give it a run for the $$$. The AP1s that are fast are long developed setups with top notch drivers. Put Jason or Steve in a CR for a year to develop and they would probably win in 09 or even 08. Or a GXP.

Yeah, but so did you... and so did I... must have been a seriously weak class last year.  Huh?

The GXP is wide.  It's the widest car in the class.  But it is damn easy to drive very hard.  However, I think that at the top levels the CR will have it.  The CR will be harder to drive at the limit but I think that the complete package will reward the great driver that can handle it.

Re: Best Cars For 2008 Stock Classes

I agree with John, and expect the GXP-Z0K to rise to the top.  AFAIK, National's was only Stemler's third event with the Z0K package, and I believe he had to make a lot of set up changes to get his car to work with the Z0K stuff (between the lines: there's more to be had).  Then consider he was one cone from winning AS.  I can only see the GXP getting faster.  It's one of the reasons I got out of AS, the other being the desire for something new and something faster.

As for the CR, I see it as an incremental improvement, and I'm not sure that even makes it better than an AP1 for today's National type courses.  If you can execute frequent shifts, the AP1 pretty much matches the AP2's forward thrust, and I believe the AP1 to be a more nimble car due to its higher roll stiffness.  On paper, the CR has improved the AP2 roll stiffness deficit, but is still softer in the rear than the 00-01 AP1, and the gearing is unchanged.

That's my opinion, FWIW, but I'm always open to a fried crow dinner.  Don't forget that if the CR manages to be a runaway class killer, it is a new, separate listing, and as such is subject to the 12 month rule.

Hm, right, I forgot that the USS Basha - I mean the AP2 - is more softly sprung than the AP1.

Matthew Braun is signed up in Superstock for the Atlanta DoubleX in a 2008 Elise SC. Is this a joke or are they going to be let into stock class? Anybody know anything about this?

Maybe thats how you get a car classed these days...I'm going to enter SS at the Texas Tour in a 430 Ferrari!! Maybe it will work for me too!

I found out that he has brought this up to the seb already. I don't think that they have done anything with it yet. Maybe he knows something. If it happens it will obviously render all non-supercharged Lotus irrelevant. Guess that means I will end up in ASP if that is the case.

The NA Elise has already won SS two out of the last three years.  Letting the S in would kill the class.  A class with nearly 70 entrants at nationals last year.

Um, didn't a Corvette win in 2005, an Elise win in 2006, and a GT3 win in 2007?  Not saying the Elise SC should be allowed in, I am just saying an Elise has only won SS once but shows to be very competitive , albeit a bit more course dependent than the other cars in the class.

I don't think letting the elise sc into SS would kill the class but it would render my car obsolete. It would probably cause a lot of fuss tho.

My prediction:  Over the next couple of years the C6 Z06 will be developed to be better than the C5 Z06 (by someone with lotsa cash).  At that point, both the "new" GT3 and the Elise S will join it in SS for a fair fight.

You're right, Braun had the fastest time in an Elise on day two in 2005 but couldn't make up enough time from day one.

Letting the Elise S in to SS would have the same effect of letting a turbo of any of the top four cars into the class, imagine the effect of a GT2, Turbo C5Z, or a turbo Viper to the class.  Just a little upsetting to the members already in the class.

Andy's prediction for SS is also my own! It's only a matter of time...thats why it's the arms race!

Scott is also right! Junior was one cone away in 05...I don't exactly call that a loss especially because it was the Jungle Cat Corvette he was running against! Ian drove his ass off in 06 and still couldn't quit get it done...lets say there was no N/A Elise just an Elise SC! Who thinks it would not have won the past 3 National Championships?

Sounds like a great idea.....might as well put in the F430 and Gallardo Superleggera too at that point. Hmm
