    MKE 1 (4/20/08)

Good to see everybody again!  Nice course, Windscreen...like how you always seem to manage to pack so much course on that lot.

Given that we had an undrivable car on Wednesday afternoon, I was very pleased how the weekend turned out for "Project Escort".  I think we'll be having a fun time with STS this year.

Anyone have pictures?  Andy S. has shots posted of run group 2/4, but not 1/3...

You're welcome to take a look at the ones on my website.  Check sig.

I got pics from Saturday (mostly me, of course!) and some on Sunday.  Bear with me, though, I'm new at this, so my pics aren't all that great!  Feel free to comment and identify if you can!

I did pretty well at the event. Took 2nd in STX, i am hoping to eventually surpass Mike in his WRX!

Here are the 2 pics that Andy took of me running! I don't think he took pics of 1 and 3 because he was running in those heats.

Andy does do a great job with the pics, there are several of me and my dad that are really good from this past weekend.  My avatar was one of his pics.

Speaking of Andy, anyone know what happend to his car on Sunday?  Looks like it got a ride back home.

It's going to an interesting season...

Not sure... But i definitely saw it getting a rind on a flatbed at the end of the event.

I was pretty impressed with how things went for you on sunday.  Nice job running without your konis in front.  The true test will be comparing times with Jason.

After fixing the blown brake line and breaking the key of in the ignition of the Nissan I wasn't able to best my first run Sad.

    Re: MKE 1 (4/20/08)

It was a great 1st event.  We all wish for 6 runs, but overall things seemed to go pretty smoothly.  There were lots of neat things to see, like the Bahr's new Solstice, really big guys in really small cars (eg Sam in a Miata), and Mr. Moore's nasty BSP 'Vette.  I didn't do as well as I had hoped, but what the heck it's only my second season, and so it was not a complete disaster for me, and I still had a blast.  I've got some more learnin' to do, and perhaps next time, I'll ask one of the enlightened ones (P) to ride along.

Congrats Larry B. on your STS win!

    Re: MKE 1 (4/20/08)

It was definitely interesting to see all the new rides, and the C-Stock competition is going to be crazy all year.  Me, I'm just thankful that the weather shaped up so well as it did all weekend.  Hopefully we'll be that lucky all year.

Ditto for Larry.  ...and to Ryan for making a valient effort to repair his car and pull off a nice 2nd place.

Paul, as for the Elanrta...It reminds me alot of my 'old' Focus Sedan...wow, can it be 3 years ago already???  Anyhow, I suspect that it performs very similarly, and as such can be made to do quite respectabally.

What are the specs on your dampers/springs, swaybars etc.?

    Re: MKE 1 (4/20/08)

Good job with the S/R Eric.  I was glad to see something new out there.  The staggered wheel size is intriguing, but it seems to work pretty well for you.

Anyway the specs on the Elantra are as follows:

    Tires: RT-615 205/50-15

K-Sport Coilvers (not great, but a LOT better than stock)

    Spring Rates: Front = 420, Rear = 224

Rear sway bar:  22mm Progress (stock was 14mm)

    Front sway bar: 23mm Stock

    Alignment:

-3 degrees front camber with 1/8" toe out

-1.5 degrees rear camber with 0" toe out

The car is lowered with the K-Sports by 1 9/16" in front and 1 1/2" in the rear.  The 205/50-15 tires are about an inch shorter than the 205/50-16 daily drivers.  So the overall drop is about 2".  There is room to drop about another inch, but I don't know what kind of geometry problems that will cause.  Dale Bahr was my instructor at the driver's school (thanks again Dale).  He spent a quite a bit of time in the car, and drove it as well.  His comments were that the car felt good and wasn't doing anything unusual.  The car rotates pretty well for a nose-heavy FWD.  So, with that in mind, I don't think that I am apt to make any major changes right now, other than tire pressure adjustments.  I think that I need more work on my driving than anything else at this point.  However, any comments or suggestions are certainly welcome.  I'm willing to try stuff.

That seems like a nice setup--much further along than my Focus got.  Keep up the good work--I really like the look of your car (again--nice to see something 'else').   If you are happy with the feel...then I agree, just keep working on the "nut behind the wheel".  If you need any more rotation, you could uncamber the rears a bit.

Well let's all hope that the "Drifter" doesn't make it to the next event.... I have nothing against drifting, however, our auto-x events are not the place to "practice".

    Attachment: brake line 1 002.jpg
For those of you who didn't see on Sunday...  My dad was going through the fast offsets at the end of the course and the pedal went to the floor.  He was lucky enough to slow the car down before the curb.  I ran to Napa and they had the replacement.  We fixed the car and I finished my runs.  It wasn't enough to get Larry but after the brake line I'm happy to have a car thats not on a flatbed...  Back in action next week, can't wait!

I would be more than happy to see this guy show up again.  Don't let his rhetoric fool you.  He is not a drifter, and he is not just practicing here.  He is just a young guy that is REALLY REALLY excited because he has found a completely legal way to have fun with his car.  Other than illusions of being a drifter, how is that any different from the rest of us?  I don't want this guy to get the cold shoulder from the Milwaukee Region, and I think that Denise and Jeff handled it very well.  We may be able to convince him that he would become a better drifter by learning car control at the limits.  Yes, I know where he finished, but I think that he has some potential.

Well, they are getting up there in age (almost 20 years old), so you have to expect things to break.  Not to mention the Civics weren't exactly 'performance' cars to begin with.
