Koni shock leaking on top by adjuster. Easy fix? Trash?

89 Civic Si Koni yellows.  Heard a hissing on the top when installing.  There was some fluid near the adjustment knob.  Help! Crying

    Remove shock.

    Replace.

    Or alternately:

    Remove shock

Ship to your friendly Koni rebuilder.

    Wait.

Reinstall shocks and pack for Nationals.

But that's only if you ship it out TODAY, otherwise you might as well just put HPT as the return shipping address and start hoping that it shows up before you have to run.

I had the same issue.  I just had them rebuilt.  It was just the rubber seal around the adjustment shaft.  The only thing that changes when you have them rebuilt is that they do not gas pressurize them.  (At least they didn't with mine.)  Nonetheless, it was a two week turn around as I dropped them off locally and picked them up at Infinion here in CA.

Was if fixed under warranty?  Mine are not covered, do you know how much it would cost?  Thanks

Going to run you around $140 per shock to rebuild.  Also, I would recommend rebuilding at least the two shocks on that end of the car and have the SPSS3 valving done.

None of the 'Race' shocks are warrantied.  They asked Koni and that was thier response.  I paid a little under $400 to get them done.  Should have had them revalve them as Mugenlude stated as the labor cost for the repair would be offset by the revalve job.  I had www.pshox.com do the work.  Very friendly and knowledgeable guys.  They also provide you with a dyno of the shocks after the rebuild.

It is an easy mistake to happen when this occurs.  It is where Koni tells you to put 55lbs torque on them to install.  When the wrench or socket slips, it deforms the shaft and therefore causes the shock to leak.  Had it happen to mine when I installed my Koni Strut inserts on my Civic.  It was not pretty when I went to Koni to have them replaced when the recommended installation guidelines were followed to the letter by an ASE Master Suspension Mechanic.  They did end up replacing them for me under warranty since I had never "auto-xed" on them and they were a week old.  I have to admit my  Koni rep was more than helpful and a pleasure to deal with!

Jimmy, Truechoice rebuilt one of my inserts in about 2 weeks for an extra $40 for 'rush' service...broke just before MKE SCCA I and had it on for WAI I.

Truechoice has turned them around for me within a day or two on several occasions
