    Curious about MR2s

I was wondering why the early 90's MR2 and MR2 turbos are such "also rans" at Nationals in Stock and Street Prepared. Over time have they become misclassed due to the evolution of other cars in their classes, or are they no longer the choice of the go faster guys?

    Re: Curious about MR2s

wow short memory.  An MR2 doesn't win ES one year out of 8 and it is now an also ran.  the Turbo in AS is a different story, but some folks have had success recently in ProSolo with them.

As for SP, I think the turbo cars are in ASP, and just can't gain enough HP to compete.  The same goes for the NA car in CSP.  The NA motor is a little tractor motor and gains very little from intake or exhaust mods, it just can't keep up with the Miata.

I would still consider the MR2 top dog in ES with the Miata very close behind.  The turbo cars are in BS not AS and they are quick but not easy to find with the right options (aka. not a t-top) and they are not proven to be faster than the RX8 so basically no one is running them.

    Re: Curious about MR2s

I think the 968s kind of stomped the life out of the MR-2 Turbos in the late nineties.

    I owned a '91 MR-2 Turbo, a '93 MR-2 Turbo, and one of the said 968s.

WOW. Easy. I have run ONE National and didn't see many 90's MR2's. Looking at the 2007 results verified what I saw. With your comment as a backdrop I looked at 2006 and 2005, it certainly appears that things changed somewhat in 2007. With a couple of 90's MR2 available around KC, I was curious in behalf of a few people thinking about what their potential might be beyond a local basis.

I thought ES last year in Kansas had plenty of MR2s.  Check out the Toledo Pro Solo or the Atlanta double-x.  Look at the DC Pro-certainly many 2s in all of the Pros.   I love the one I just got and can't wait to learn to drive it.

Tru dat on E/S at Nationals. My bad. The early 90's MR2's are neat cars. I was just taking a cursory look for a couple other guys.

    Re: Curious about MR2s

As you probably discovered now that people threw tomatoes at you Stick out tongue the MR2's finished 2nd and 3rd in ES at the 2007 National...I'm as curious as you because an MR2 from the New York region (Ken Frey) won ES at the Canadian National two out of the last three years and I'm coming out of retirement this year to try to put a 944 up there instead of those MR2's or Miata's.....I'll get a taste in the Devens National Tour june 7-8 since the Canadian National is august 1-3...

    Re: Curious about MR2s

A properly set-up MR2 is still going to be an excellent choice for national events, especially pros.  They're inexpensive, fairly duarable and are easy on the tire budget.  Bob, if you've got buddies running locally that think they want to take the next step, tell'em to go for it!

BTW, hey Jer, you going to change your avatar this year?  ( i guess i'm one to talk )  Stick out tongue

Bryan Heitkotter just beat Jason Isley in BS with a turbo MR2 in the California Divisional at Golden Gate Field.

Those 275's are mighty stretched out on a 15x7" wheel, but they fit!
