That's awesome.  I'm really happy to see some more manufacturers step up and really support the sport.

Too bad they aren't making R-comps anymore since I'm not running on street tires these days.

Darrin put that in the ear of one of the Bridgestone people at the Champ Car party.  Smile

It's already been in their ear for a coupla years.  Rod's boss is Mike Van Sicklen.  Look in your rulebook listings for his past Solo accomplishments (as well as club racing).  He knows the drill.  Much data was being taken at Huntsville last year on sizes people were running in r-compounds.  Coincidence?

When Bridgestone is in a market, they always tend to rise to the top.  I would only expect an r-compound when they are certain they can compete at the highest level (which should be pretty easy for them) and, more importantly, when it supports their marketing goals.  Outside of Hoosier, no one makes significant bottom-line revenue on autocross-oriented r-compounds.  If they can get most of what they need by staying exclusively on UHP street tires, they'll likely stay there.  But if they want to own the whole enchilada, they could pretty easily do so, methinks.

My question is...why would anyone run on anything else when things like this are offered and given opportunities like this?

Simple. Not offering the "right" sizes for everyone.

That said, I am in the brand "D" camp this year, and despite the lack of love there--it too seems to be a damn fine tire.

ditto for me, except The H-Brand had the 15" with a  24"OD  tire I wanted.  For me, it was between H & T.

    SoloTiresdotCom:

Yup, Bridgestone has really stepped up and provided all of us in the Solo/Street Touring community with something that I haven't seen out of any other tire manufacturer in a long, long time, if ever. I've only been doing this 19 years. When I first heard about the new tires and contingency over a year ago, I was excited about it. Then they signed on some of the top drivers helping them in many different ways during the year. They attended 3 different National events across the country with full support including tire mounting, tire delivery, a cute umbrella girl, and lots of smiles! It just kept flowing with the framed pictures of each person's car, the Nationals Tuesday night party, the SportsCar ad, and poster showcasing most of the Street Touring entries running on the RE-01Rs. Then when it came down to the National Champions who ran on Bridgestones, the thank-yous and respect from Bridgestone was nothing short of amazing. And for them to come back and do it all over again for another round is even better. I just want to publicly give them a big thank you once again and can't wait to win on Bridgestones for a long time to come.

My question is...why would anyone run on anything else when things like this are offered and given opportunities like this?

And to Jason, Amy, Michelle and to their guests, thanks for the fun time! Hopefully we can do it again this time next year!

OK, Mike, I'll let you know how much fun it will be next year from the STS2 contingentStick out tongue

I'm comin for ya this year!!!  Again congrats to you and all of the other Solo winnersWink

Actually the way Bridgestone has treated the winners AND all competitors that run their tires is the reason I've chosen to stay with Bridgestone.

I'll see ya in September or can I talk ya into coming up to KC for the National Tour in August too?

    Re: Bridgestone outdoes themselves again...

Tim, I might just take you up on that...was planning on making KC as one of my Tours. We'll see how things go...might end up towing out early and running my car. Time and money will tell...

    Thanks!

Oh yes, not to be outdone again, there is a new Divisional contingency program coming out very shortly for people on Bridgestone tires. I will keep everyone posted as soon as I hear more. Just a heads-up...

    Re: Bridgestone outdoes themselves again...

    Mike,

Let me know if you want to tow out early and make the tour here.  If you don't want to have to tow the car back and forth to the midwest twice (for KC Tour and Nats) let me know and I'd be more than happy to store your car at my place between the Tour and Nats if you'd like.  I don't know if you had plans for any other events between the Tour and Nats but I just thought I'd offer if that would help with some of your travel/tow expenses.  Or you could just come up or fly into KC and drive my car if you didn't want to tow a car with you.  Again, just a thought/offer.  I believe our cars are still set up pretty similar.

If you're interested, let me know!!

I'd love to have you and a whole lot of other STS2 drivers come up to KC for the Tour.  Andy, Glagola, Leach, Seelig...You guys up for it?  Anyone...

PS: I don't think Ann & I will be making KC this year.  Our current plan is to decompress some at Glacier and Rocky Mountain NP's on the way back from Packwood.

    Re: Bridgestone outdoes themselves again...

Are the rumors true that I have heard from the grapevine, that Bridgestone is coming out with a revolutionary new condom.

I also heard that it would be reuseable multiple times, and that it would provide amazing sensations.  Only problem that the R&D boys have not been able to solve is that the condom seems to bond with the skin, and becomes so tight that the blood does not flow back into the body.  This makes the male organ necrotic, and it literally falls off in 48 hours.  Currently Bridgestone is recruiting only those male individuals wanting to go ahead with sex reassignment surgery as the death of the male organ would be unacceptable to other study members, and god forbid the public at large.  When these slight tecnical glitches are overcome Bridgestone looks foward to expaning our business from tires right  into prophylactics.

Well that sucks that you and Ann aren't going to make it to KC this year.  I was really hoping you would!  BTW, I really enjoyed dinner a few weeks ago with you guys.  I guess I'll have to wait till Nats to drink the Julio with ya again!!

    Re: Bridgestone outdoes themselves again...

FWIW, at Nats last year, at one point during the week, I drove by their rig when a bunch of them were near the roadway and thanked them for the support (even though my car was plastered with Hoosier stickers and rolling on Hoosiers. Heck I did the same to the GM crew. I really do appreciate all of them supporting our little sport). We should all do that when they appear at Tours, etc.
