    H-Stock Question

I recently joined SCCA with the intenton of running a few autoX events in the WDCR, the first is on June 1 at FedEx Field.  Anyway I am running my 2008 Rabbit in the HS class and need clarification, the rules for stock class state that a tire may not be a race compound tire, but I have seen that contradicted on a few forums...what is the real deal. I would hate to get out there on R compounds and be put into a class that I have no earthy buisness in. Thanks

    Re: H-Stock Question

You are fine with just about any DOT approved tire in stock class.  Slicks are prohibited because they are not DOT approved.  R-compounds are fine and pretty much required to be competitive in most areas.

    Re: H-Stock Question

There is no rule stating you MUST be on R-comps. Frankly, if you're a complete novice, learning on R-comps may not be the way to go because if you possess any bad driving habits a race tire will mask those.

    Re: H-Stock Question

as far as I understand it, stock class cars can change exhaust, dampers, and air FILTER only.

You CAN run slicks, or, I believe you can run street tires & have a different index.

    Am I right?

Real race tires are generally refered to as "Slicks" and are not DOT approved, and therefore not legal for Stock, SP, or SM.

R compounds are DOT approved and have at least 2 longitudinal grooves running around the tire, and they are legal for Stock SP and SM

The is no special index for street tires, although some regions have played with a multiplier to allow comparison between street tire classes (not Street Touring classes) and regular classes
