Thinking about modding my Elise for SM2

 Would a second party supercharger be legal--like BWR .

I think that SM2 min weight for a supercharged Elise would be 2005 based on the formula of 200lbs liter +25 liter for engine behind driver

Don't want to ruin another car, but getting the parts from Lotus and doing a ASP legal supercharger seems difficult.

Would this car need a LSD ?  opinions.......(as my Elise doesn't have one)

Under current rules....

 NA Elise = 1.8 * 225 + 1600 = 2005

 FI Elise (supercharged or turbo) = (1.8 + 1.4)*225 + 1600 = 2320

 If the 200lb weight break for 275 or under width tires goes through for 2009, then those become NA=1805 and FI=2120.

Andy, why didn't you just tell Lehman to stop messing around with theoreticals and possibilities and just buy your car, if he wants to run SM2? Less pain, still have an Elise to pick up chicks and a no excuses ride for Solo II

Lehman, SM2 would be ok if the 200 lbs. weight break goes through.  Otherwise, it would be too frustrating to add 400 lbs. of ballast to that car.  200 lbs. is painful enough...

As far as getting the SC parts from Lotus, I have 2 complete sets of Lotus SC parts ready to go minus 1 or 2 back-ordered parts.  You're looking at $5k in parts, not including the ecu solution.  I know a good tuner up in Philly that can handle the ecu reflash if you're interested...  Or you can go with a stand alone EFI ecu like we did on the Randy Chase, now Jason Uyeda car.

So---5k in parts------How much ECU solution ?

PS---adding LSD----can it be Toyota------can I let a Toyota dealer do it, or better at a Lotus dealer if they will do it ?  Although my Lotus dealer handels exotics, and I don't know if like the main tech would be able to get the time to do it-----as they prob have a much of other exotic junk to do.

About $5k in Lotus parts, some of those sourced from other places.
 

ECU... depends. I had the EFI running the engine, but it does cost $3k or so.  The good thing is most of the tuning is done and can be gotten from DRS in La Habra and then you can tweak/dyno.  Or you can get a reflash done on the stock ECU cheaper, but then there is no way to change the tune easily for E-85, 100 octane, high elevations, etc.
 

LSD-  You can get a Toyota supplied tranny or differential. Probably easier to swap the entire tranny and also install a lighter flywheel and better clutch. 

 

ASP makes a LOT more sense. You can get the car under 1900 pounds and over 250hp and just about as much tire as you want (too much).

You will need an LSD.  Especially if you add the SC.

 If you can get the transmission out, send it up to me and I can do the install.  TRD makes an LSD for that transmission.  I have installed a few in Loti.

I've driven a s/c Elise making about 215 whp with an open diff on Nitrons and it didn't have any problems putting the power down on corner exit.

Depends on factors including available grip. I have had issues putting power down when the car was naturally aspirated.

what kind of N/A motor swaps could you do in a Lotus in SM2? Would they have to be a toyota engine or something that was specifically put in a Lotus at one time in history?

3.6 liter (originally 3 liter) NASCAR Dash Series spec Camry V6.  ~400 whp on a Holley two barrel.

I won't even bother calculating the minimum weight with that motor.
