    STS2 CRX alignment recommendations?

    195/50/15 RE-01Rs shaved to 4/32nd

Ran 37 psi fronts and 34 psi rears

Listed setup below is what I ran when I was running the RT-615s

-3 degrees and 0 toe up front

-2.5 degrees and 0 toe in the rear

Koni DAs on both end with 430 lb fronts and 500 lb rears

Stock Si front bar and non adjustable ST rear bar

After the first event it seems like the car would feel better with a little less camber.  My co-driver and I both agreed we weren't getting as much traction as we could possibly have.  It was a relatively cold day, so it could be a matter of paranoia.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Before you make any wholesale changes I would wait until you have run on a warmer day...the 'stones definitely do not like the cold.

Take off that front bar.  You don't need it... Sure, it makes the car easier to drive but it's slower since you can't use much gas on exit with out wheelspin and push is the devil.

You're alignment looks good... maybe a tad too much front camber.

     Pressures seem right.

I'll try no bar this weekend since its a test day, so much for spending all that money last summer and getting new front sway bar bushings.  *laughs*

I think you guys are right about the cold weather, hand test and pryometer readings were extremely low on the tires.  My notes said ambient temperature was in the 44-45 range.

Yeah, I was running an evo school in the Miata last weekend in 55-65 deg weather with no sun and windy conditions.  Even at the warmest of the day doing back to back to back runs, the stones were not at optumim temp.  They were just starting to get happy, then it got cooler and grip dropped again.

Sean, I'm running 0 toe all around as well, with -2.8f and -2.1r

    Re: STS2 CRX alignment recommendations?

David: we have very similar setups.  I think we both posted ours on roadrace-autox.com once a while back.

I'll try no bar and hopefully the warmer weather this weekend gives me a little more time to get used to the 'stones.

    Re: STS2 CRX alignment recommendations?

    We ran the following:

Front:  -2.5 camber, 1/8" toe out, no front bar, 36psi

Rear:  -2 camber, 1/16" toe in, st adj bar on middle setting, 31psi

The combination of no front bar and the little bit of toe in in the rear really made the car controllable.

     YMMV

Hey Jason, if you're running 15" B-stones that set up sounds pretty damn good.... spring rates?  :)

    Re: STS2 CRX alignment recommendations?

Hey Matt,  to be honest I don't really remember what the rates were.  It was Darrin's car and they kinda came with it.  I wanna say 450/600 but I think I am making that up.

Yeah, that was on the 15" stones...we never had the money to experiment with the 16's.  It's a moot point now since that car is in Iowa somewhere :)

    Re: STS2 CRX alignment recommendations?

Well, I managed to smack a deer in 'Lil Evil heading to a T&T in Des Moines... guess the name fits.

So, my question for those with more seat time in an STS2 CRX (which is pretty much anyone who has one), do you recommend no front bar for all conditions, low/high grip surface, temp, etc.?  Maybe I was not getting on the power early enough, no push and no problem putting power down.  Most imrpovement would come from left foot braking for smoother transition of front/rear weight when going through some faster off-sets.

I attended a local school this year with an HF bar and the car rotated very well (cool 45F) and was planning to disconnect it along with a few other adjustments at the T&T, but bambi altered those plans and the racing budget.  A replacement hood, headlight, radiator, and windshield are on order.

    Re: STS2 CRX alignment recommendations?

Oh man, that is terrible!  I'm assuming this is really our old "lil evil"?  Post pics!

We found with the CRX there was never a problem with rotation (hence the name), so removing the front bar was a win win situation.  We didn't really find an instance/surface where the lack of a front bar hurt us.  The car even still slalomed well!

Left foot braking is a huge win in these cars, just ask Mike King :)  I could never get the hand of it and I'm sure I paid for it in lost time.

    Hope this helps,

Hmmm, that means that Mike and Jason are both big on LFBing. If I can figure out how to stop hitting cones, then I plan to try to learn LFBing. One thing at a time Smile

I don't left foot brake.  I'm trying it out on the street with some success but I haven't tried it at an auto-x yet.

I don't left foot brake....I tried it, but without a harness, I just ended up pinned against the door :)

    Update:

No bar is the way to go, I noticed a very big difference with the endlinks off.  I am ditching the bar this weekend!
