    Car Shopping - Any help?

I'm trying to pick up a cheap, reliable, economical DD for my wife.  Want to spend anywhere from 3,000 to 8,000.  Arn't going to find anything cheaper, and I just can't go higher until the kid's out of college.  Prefer Auto trans...something like a Corolla, Focus, Sentra, ...best would be a Civic.  Some Beetles are getting down in this range...she would love one of those!  Prefer under 100K miles....there's an absolute crapload of cars with 150K+ miles no them, no thanks.  May pay more for a screaming deal on a really good low mile car.

Been searching, and there's not much around here.  Crap, there a lot of scams out there!  I am already checking Craigslist regularly and I have someone else helping me with that too, so no need to bother with Craiglist links.  What I am asking for is if anyone knows of a neighbor, family member, or friend that may be selling.  Kind of "on the street" news.  I keep hearing stories from my friends...."I just traded my old Civic in for a new car, you could have had that for a good price..."  Hoping to find a private owner I can trust with a fair deal.

Please keep your eyes open and post or call me with any potential candidates.  If you have time and the inclination, just go and check it out for me as if you were buying it yourself.  I have Carfax, so VIN would be helpful, and I can move fast on getting the deal done on the right car.  I'll kick in a little reward money for a good find too!!  Thanks for any help!!!

you probably omitted the 2nd gen Neon for a reason, but my son just picked one up for $2,600 with 89k miles in good shape up here in NE where the winters bite.  Their resale value appears lower than the imports so my impression was it's possible to get more car for the money if you don't mind the Dodge...

just a thought.  I used to run a twin cam 1st gen and it treated me well...

    good luck with the search.

He bought a car.  I would recommend posting on your local craigslist unless we know you.  This forum is for autocrossers.

No need to get all snobby and elitist.   I don't know about you, but I don't see hordes of people beating down the registration tables to run with us.  In fact, has any event hit the cap this year?  I think not.  I can't think of a good reason to give anyone who is unfamiliar with our sport the first impression that we are a bunch of jerks.  Unless it was Tucker.

BTW, I would have been interested in the Honduh, except I bought a car a month or so ago.

Re: Car Shopping - Any help?

You don't think it is a good recommendation to post a car for sale on craigslist?  In re-reading my post, I can see how it would sound to others.  I was trying to get across the message of introducing yourself to the forum before selling a car on it.  There have been scam posts in the past and I am not implying that this is that, I don't think it is due to the phone numbers listed, but if they are interested in racing with us

YOUA, I WILL PAY FOR YOUR FIRST EVENT  so you do not think that we are jerks.  Party!!!

Now, to remove the stick from my eye.  Angel
