    New cars for 2008

Brian's in the Exige and I've heard rumors that the STi may go to another Mississippi region member (assuming he hasn't officially defected). Trey Williams has a competitive new car and several other people have talked about buying something different for this year. But one rumor in particular really piqued my interest... something about a red car in a Prepared class.

This is, of course, completely unsubstantiated. I leave it to you, the reader, to judge for yourself who and what this might involve.

    Oooh...a new P car...might it be a 'Yota?

Expect to see the old Beige 240sx out for some shakedown events before Nationals.  She's still SLOOOWWWLLY coming together, but she's getting close.

    Re: New cars for 2008

I wish I had a new car, with a standard, and R-comps. Does that count?

Otherwise, looks like I'll be in Street Tire with the Mustang 'vert again.

sooo...Lance, you might have some fender/tire clearance issues in the rear based on that picture.

Not exactly a new car, but more like the new kid in the region.

    Re: New cars for 2008

Here is the replacement for the 914... not nearly the same... but she has all the creature comforts and rides better around town. No cool factor so we might as well wail on her. I'm going to try and attend March and possibly May.

    Re: New cars for 2008

Yeah Brian...in that pic, all the rear weight of the car is actually sitting on the tires.  I've broken out the end grinder and some cutting wheels since I took that pic, and the rear springs compressed another full inch.  Still got a little clearancing and playing around with suspension geometry to do.  Got a question for you since you've run the wide tires and I'm assuming you've had to deal with tight fender/suspension clearances...just how close can you get to control arms and inner fenders before you have to start worrying about sidewall flex?

Done:  300ZX brakes, 5-lug conversion, wheels/tires, LSD, solid link suspension arms, "cheap" coilovers (for now), racing seats and brackets, 5 gallon fuel cell, built motor

To Do:  harnesses, firewall fuel cell, install motor and accessories, finish fender clearances and flares, set initial ride height and alignment, check tune and break in motor, cross fingers, pray

    Re: New cars for 2008

Added lots of new parts to the mustang to get it ready for the '08 season...The last thing that I have to do is mess with the front sway bar and/or sway bar end links and it will be completely FS ready...

The only problem now is figuring out what put about a 4" long gash in the side of the driver's side front strut tube this past weekend in B'ham...Neither myself, Brian, Drew, Becker, or Bell could figure out what had happened...looks like I will be working on the car this coming weekend trying to figure out what happened so it doesnt happen again...

    Re: New cars for 2008

I had some tight clearances on my rear strut housing and trailing arm. As long as I could put a piece of cardboard b/w the tire and whatever was close to it, it never presented a problem. The sidewall flex is mainly limited to the portion of the tire that is very close to the contact patch (in other words -> sidewall flex won't matter so much up near suspension components). However, tight clearances could get something stuck in there in some crazy happenstance, but I would say for a racecar that that is an acceptable risk, especially one in which so many compromises b/w tires and suspension geometry are made (i.e. ST, SP, and SM classes where the rulesets are like a maze where one thing is allowed by one rule but others make it impossible to achieve within the rules). Hope that helps.

    Re: New cars for 2008

Groovy.  I got about a 1/8" clearance on the lower control arm...I might grind it down a little just to be safe.  The other problem is I'm hitting the inner fender with the top of the tire under compression, so I gotta back off on the aggressiveness of my camber curve (which may not be a bad thing).

So is your rule that you'll only buy a car from someone slower than you? That must severely limit your options. No wonder it took you so long to find one.
