    Audi S4 (V8) ST classing

Does anyone know why the S4 (V8) is specifically excluded from both STX & STU?

I would think STU would be a good fit, compared to the Evo & STi it's got a few more HP but it has to haul around an extra 500 some pounds.

Based on it's exclusion from STX, I assumed it was in STU.

I've even run it at a few events, classed in STU over the last 3 years without anyone complaining. I was just looking at the 2008 rulebook and was shocked to see it excluded from STU also.

Funny thing is, the reason I was looking at the rulebook was to see if the Honda S2000 was legal for STU (an event I was thinking of going to has a couple of guys registered in an S2000 in STU).

Along the same lines, ('01-'06) BMW M3 is also excluded from STU. I don't understand either as it seems most AS cars are elligible for STU. Why is the Subaru WRX STi (also AS) elligible for STU, but not the M3?

I noticed that too. In 2007, the V8 S4 was STX excluded, but included in STU. Also, the current ST classification listing in the Quick Reference section of the Solo rules page of the SCCA web site also lists the V8 S4 as an STU car. I don't recall any bulletins moving the S4 to STU. The S4 certainly is not an overdog in STU. I wonder if the 2008 rules meant to exclude the RS4 from STU? That doesn't really make sense either since the RS4 is not mentioned anywhere in current ST class lists. Its very odd. Maybe its just a typo.

The E46 is currently in the process (can't remember what it is called - something like "member comment") of being removed from the exclusion list for STU.  I would think the V8 S4 would fit there, although I don't think it can compete with the top cars in the class.  Write a letter....

Re: Audi S4 (V8) ST classing

I had been looking in the "rules" section, not the "cars" section of the rule book. The S4 (V8) is listed in the exclusion list in the "cars" section in both 07 & 08. In the "rules" section it was added in 08. Previously I had never looked in the back at he "car" list for STU.

I have given up on setting up my S4 for STU, I do however continue to run in STU at the odd events where my autox car isn't available, and nobody complains (I could give up the downpipes and run FS, but I don't want to).
