    New EM Build

I'm new here and I am in need of help I would like to know what size wheels I should get to be competitive in EM, I am going to be running an 80's MGB with a Ford 221 V-8 with a C-4 transmission and a stock (as far as I know) rear end, I also would like to know what kind of mods you can do. I'm also going to try and do TT with the car. Any help would be great and if know of any MG fourms that would be cool too. Thanks Nick

I agree with the 13 inch rims and the 8-10" widths. When you are looking for tires, I think you should look at the Hoosier R25 compound as it is soft enough to build some heat with what should be a light car in a Solo environment. The 13 inch rims should give you plenty of slicks to choose from. Not sure if the R25's would be too soft for TT's. Where are you located Nick? There are some strong running EM cars here in the northeast.

Emod is the pinnacle Solo class for production based cars. If you look on SCCA's (www.scca.org) site you can download the 2008 Solo rulebook in PDF format and there you will find the Emod rules. You will see that many, many modifications are allowed. If you are the creative engineering type and are working with a production based car, Emod should be a fun class to play in.

I'm in Colorado, we have a V-8 Covair here that is breath taking . I'm not sure that the 13's will fit  but if it is like FSP  I know that the size for that class is 13's and 15's are 15's competitive?

How close are you to minimum weight?   The problem with the 15" and larger tires is that they are generally designed for much heavier cars, making it difficult to get them up to a good working temperature (especially for short autocross runs).  The exception being the Formula Atlantic 15" tires, although many find the FA rear tire too wide and the FA front tire too narrow for their purposes/car.
