For you guys taking BG chassis to FSP, my Escort GT has been retired from competition and the suspension is for sale. <wink><wink>
Took 6th in FSP at Nationals in STS trim with R tires.

zxtwou2:^just curious....but if you are going FSP, what are you going to do about your open diff? i know there are a few options, but most of them just aren't tried and true. the phantom grip isn't a true LSD, the MazdaSpeed Protege has a weak bull gear shear problem (at least the older ones do), and Quaife backed out on making the 30 units they were going to do. i'm only curious because i'd like to go the route of FSP, but feel the car really won't be competative without the LSD. if i can find out what more people are going to do, maybe i can start getting the ball rolling on moving out of STS.
I have not researched this, Tim. I know there are BG Proteges out there in FSP, and BJ cars as well--in fact one trophied last year. To be honest, I dont even know what transaxle series the ZX2 has...though I would assume it to be the same as the Proteges. Can you shed any light on this?

I suspect that the MSP is the unit being used most often. That is a 200+ ft/lb motor...we'll be far below that, and as such I suspect that the MSP LSD would suffice.
not sure what you mean by BG and BJ. we do have the protege transaxle, but not the mazdaspeed protege. it's the G5MR...with 2 spider gears instead of the 4 that comes in the Ford Escape equipped with the zetec. if i remember right, the MSP LSD swaps in, but you must get axles made with the correct number of splines.

BG - First gen protege (89-94) (or something close to that)
BJ - Third gen protege (99-03) The mazdaspeed protege uses the G15M-R I think it has a little different gear ratios than the G5MR. Ratios on the G15M-R are 1. 3.307:1 2. 1.842:1 3. 1.310:1 4. 0.970:1 5. 0.755:1 FD. 4.105:1 R. 3.166:1

The open diff, with no LSD available, is what kept me from going to DSP with my S/R. Instead, I bought a Miata and am running in ES. But now I'm thinking about FSP even without the LSD. I need to reread the SP rules and do some budget analysis.

I thought I read somewhere that Kia Sopheia axles work on the ZX2 with MSP diff... I haver heard nothing good about the PG. I'd run an open diff before that. Nonetheless, its not a top priority for me at the moment...keep in mind that you can still get in the National trophies w/o one (see Will's post above). I finally get to drive my car this weekend...and then the sorting begins.

Im not too familliar with the zx2, but if it uses the mazda based transmission it would be the 10-bolt diff G-type of the 3rd gen proteges/2nd gen Probe/MX6 (2nd gen protege(1.6l?) used a J-type transmission?, Id have to check on that)

Re: Ford EGT and Focus in FSP, but ZX2 in DSP :-/
Very good input on the LSD. I, too, see the LSD as a limiting factor for the ZX2.
But I think the saving grace may be the "low" power output of the ZX2. The aforementioned MSP LSD would work, with the prescribed modifications to the axles (which I'm not sure of legality in SP). I don't think you could get the Z to over-power the MSP diff.
I've begun "parting up": Momo steering wheel, 22mm adj. RSB, Kamikaze header (on the car when I bought it), Porterfield pads, etc. Due to an unforeseen circumstance, it looked like our (mine and my wife's) season was not going to be, but we may now be able to get some events in.
Has anybody been able to run on R-compoounds and compare times to FSP cars?
