Awesome on the contingency :)  Now, I just need to learn how to drive...

I ended up running the Bridgestones at the event last weekend.  I am going to run the R1Rs this weekend, and then do comparisons the following weekend at the B'ham T&T.  Anyone have data acq. stuff and want to help do comparisons?

The toyos are definately softer, and I can't wait to try them out.

    Great! Anxious to see results.

I'm really hoping this is a good tire, the upcoming 245/35-17 would be the perfect size for me.

Sheesh Kevin, get with the times!  I was on Bridgestone exclusively once they came out!   Nice set of full-tread 205/45-16 RE-01Rs for me.  Worked great during the deluge at the ProParts T&T at HPT just prior to Nats.

Wasn't that about a year and a half behind the times Andy?  You must have meant, "once they came out in kiddie car sizesStick out tongue

Would be great to see Kumho come out with a competitive ST tire, maybe that'll get Ken back in and relieve Kevin of his "One legged man in a butt-kicking contest" status...Big Smile

Aha, yes, that was way back in Atwater where you had the Goodyears.  Can't argue with keeping on the same brand tire.  Did you compare the two back to back for the rain?

No.  Like you, I was committed at that point so it did not really matter.  And I kinda didn't really want to know.  But Tire Rack did show them to be right there in their wet testing.

PS: Yeah J-RHo, in kiddie car sizes.  Stick out tongue

Latest information from my rep is the Toyo R1R tires have arrived in California and he has the 225/45R15 price at $145 ea.

    Any other rumors / updates?

I agree.  I am hoping my contact is correct on potential delivery, but wrong on price.  Chances are it is the other way around.

    Re: Toyo>Bridgestone?

If you look at aimtire.com and compare the prices for the R1R vs. the R888

    Size                            R1R                   R888

    225/50/16                 170.00                 190.00
    235/40/17                 174.00                 199.00
    225/45/15                   ???                    166.00

So if it follows the ~$20 less than the R888 its possible it will be $145. I was hoping it would be less :(

Sounds steep since they're still gonna be slower than the Bridgestones....Stick out tongue

STS being led by B'stone (note: no Toyo's in class)

    STS2 being led by Toyo

STS2L being led by B'stone (note: no Toyo's in class)

    STX being led by Toyo

    STXL being led by Toyo

Looks like the Toyo's are definitely competitive!

    Re: Toyo<Bridgestone?

I'm assuming that Glagola is running the 195/50-15 Toyo and not a "first in country" set of 225's.

    Re: Toyo<Bridgestone?

    Updated early Sunday tire results...

    STS - Bridgestone 1st & 4th, Toyo 2nd & 3rd, Falken 5th

    STS2 - Toyo 1st & 4th, Bridgestone 2nd & 3rd

    STX - Toyo 1st, Bridgestone 2nd, 3rd & 4th

    STU - Unknown 1st, Bridgestone 2nd, 3rd & 4th

For the record there were more cars with Bridgestone's than Toyo's. My guess is that both brands were primarily of the same size (195/50/15), but there may have been a few B'stone's in the 205/45/16 size too. IMO they seem about equal tires, but when Toyo finally releases the wider 225/45/15 & 22/45/16 sizes they will dominate imo.

    Re: Toyo<Bridgestone?

What kind of difference was there in conditions between run groups for the different ST classes?  What order did the ST classes run in?  There's a variety of tires at the top of the classes, but there's also a fairly large differnce in times at the top between the classes.

There was virtually no difference in conditions other than the amount of rubber on the surface.  STX ran 3rd heat, STU & STS2 4th, and STS 5th.

My opinion probably isn't worth a lot since I suck and also spent the weekend suffering from cranial/rectal inversion but I did like the Toyo's.  I ran out of talent looooooong before they ran out of grip.
