Just got two sets from AIM. They are the tire shop at Sears Point in California. They are going to make a 245 - 17 in the near future. The 235 40 17's are huge on my 8.5 wheels. I measure 9.8 inches. I think they are going to work good for the subie. http://www.aimtire.com/typ_main.asp?ObjectID=528 Drew

How much were the 235 Toyos shipped? I'd imagine Houston shipping would be within about $10-15 total :) I'm not sure what I'll try on the VW after the RE-01Rs wear out. Was looking at the Dunlop, then the Toyo, then the Kumho.

Is anybody running R1Rs worried about the warning from Toyo about operating these tires in freezing temps? Atlanta's first event is in February and it could easily be freezing down here.

I also have found (please correct me if my information is bad) that this tire compound is at least 2 years old according to the link below. Not only that, but this tire is simply an evolution of an even older tire, the toyo trampio R1R. The improvements apparently being limited to increasing sidewall stiffness and decreasing tread wear.

I am not meaning to come off as being against Toyo... I am simply sharing the information that I have found.

The RE-01R is an older compound too, just FYI. It has even been here for almost 2 years (April?)

difference in height between 195/50-15 R1R on 15x7 and 205/45-16 re-01r on 16x7.5 (stack of 4) will see how they work next weekend at the dixie event :) btw, the toyo compound feels a bit softer then the bridgestone compound with the fingernail test.

BrianGT, Thanks for taking the time to post! I can't believe how wide those R1R's are. That's pretty crazy. I can't wait to see what your impressions are after the Dixie Tour! Keep us updated!!!!!!

Second that. I was surprised the first time I saw the RE-01R 15's stacked next to the 16's...there was about an inch in height difference when 4 are stacked next to each other if I recall correctly. But once you look at how the tread is constructed, the 16's tread width was much wider compared to the 15's. I'm still evaluating what's faster...splitting hairs practically on the CRX and definitely course dependent. -Mike King

Yeah, I noticed that when I was looking at the 15" bridgestones too. I will see if I can compare them at Dixie. There is more tread on the 15" toyos than the 16" bridgestones. One more thing that I noticed before the tires were mounted was that the Toyos were heavier, and the sidewall was a good bit stiffer. I need to pick up a durometer to monitor the tires, but I think that the Toyo R1Rs are definitely a softer compound. It will be interesting to see how they hold up in the heat of summer compared to the Bridgestones.
