Who's got the most number of events on the Z1 SS's?

I have not added up the events, but I have 204 runs on my Z1 SS's. They started out at full tread and are down to about 2-3/32nds now and are still VERY fast. Trying to get some fresh shaved ones for Nationals, but not too sure if they are going to make it here in time or not.

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

I put them on before our first event in April and have been DDing (+50 miles to/from work) and AXing them since. They've run a school and two test and tunes in the meantime, and performed beautifully at this last weekend's National Tour. I ordered them shaved to 6/32nds and still have enough left that they should last me through the end of the season. Graining has been minimal and I never saw chunking, which is impressive because I overdrive my very heavy car pretty badly. Considering that they're great in the wet and brilliant in the dry I've been very impressed with their daily road manners.

     I'll buy them again.

Luckily no problem getting the 225/50 16's I ordered yesterday for my 2.5 RS :)

Just cursious....did you notice any size difference with this tire from other 225/50/16s?

My Bridgestones were taller than my Azenis in that size, and I'm hoping the Dunlops are more in line with the Azenis size.

    Thanks

I went from running a 205/55 16 on my Subaru to this so I am not sure how they compare to other 225 tires.

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

After the National Tour in Milwaukee the Bridgestone people were running a bunch of tests of their tires and also of several others including the Dunlops.  I'd KILL to know what the results of that was!!!

also, for what it is worth, I consistently could get peak g-forces of about 1.08 g's in sweeping corners on my BMW 318 on a 195/55/15 size o the Star Spec's during auto-x racing.

I saw 1.52 peak with 245/40/17's on the concrete at Peru. We generally see over 1.2 peak with them according to the max-q.

The question is if I'm looking for street tires again next year should I be looking for something other than the Dunlops?

I was told by one source that they would be there and that they were testing them in some ways specifically against the Dunlops. Seems like the Direzza Star Spec got Bridgestone's attention pretty quick.

The RE-11 was there.  I personally tested RE-11, RE-01R, Z1 Star Spec, Yokohama AD07, Toyo R1R all in 245/40/17 on my STI.  It was a private test, so I really don't want to give out a ton of info, but every vehicle there STS Civic, STS2 Miata, Evo 6, and my STU STI were all fastest on Bridgestones.  Read into that as you will. :)

    Which Bridgestones?

That in my opinion is an easy answer to deduce.  Based on everything I've seen and read when an equivalent size (with the appropriate ratio is available) the Dunlop is superior to the RE-01R.  I also was told via rather vague sources that the RE-11 was aimed directly at the Dunlop (which wouldn't happen unless it was beating the RE-01R).  So while it is a bit of a series of logic hyperbole my estimate would be the following, fastest to slower: RE-11, Z1, RE-01R.  Where the Toyo and the Yok fit in there I don't know.  The toyo is weird from what I see in that it has great grip but bad heat resistance and a sloppy feel... so for some it is a fast tire, for others not so much.

And I realize there are people that will argue or be upset by my comment of Z1 versus RE-01R at the start there... but I stand by MY opinion. :)

    That was helpful.

It would seem that if I was Bridgestone, my 'new' replacement tire would be faster than the one being replaced...so it would stand to reason, based on all levels of resonability, of course, that the RE11 would indeed be the faster of the Bridgestones.  I am hopeful that they make more attractive sizes in that model...

...I am also very curious to see the Kumho XS when it hits our shores.  My guess is that it'll be rather speedy as well.

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

For those that say that the manufacturers don't really care about the autocross community I would say the rather rapid and wide innovation on these top end street tires would somewhat argue otherwise.  Frankly we know that 90% of street driving enthusiasts can NOT tell the difference between these tires and that the manufacturers feel that the presence in motorsports items like autocross is important otherwise they wouldn't go to these lengths or put in their descriptions statements like "autocross inspired casing".  I'm certainly the happier for it although the deciding each spring for what is fastest for the year sucks... got lucky on my choice this year at least....

Bridgestone was running tire tests after Milwaukee NT, and they didn't ask for my expertise?

    KIDDING!!!

I wondered why they told us to leave the cones out after fifth heat.

My codriver and I pondered that all the way back to Kansas City. :-)
