any update on these tires ??

     Thanks

I know of several STU drivers testing these in the near future. I wish they made more sizes, of course!

    Rick-

Will you be running these tires at the CSCC event at CSW this coming weekend?  I'll stop by and chat.

PS-- the 195/55-15 has very similar size specs to the RT-615 205/50-15, and last week were $80 each on TireRack, now $84 each.

    SS RX7 R2:
I've only had a day or two of street driving on the Z1s. Fun to slide around with very little roll-over. They don't understeer as much as the RE-01Rs. Not as mushy as a some of the others.

Still probably have some mold release on them, and haven't had a chance to test once they're up to temp. Hope to test begining of next month.
First impressions are that the compound probably has less ultimate grip than the top two tires, Neova and RE-01R, but the Z1s could be better than the rest due to the tire construction.

Thats good to hear, when I told some people about this tire on a local forum they all agreed that the tire was trash because it was made by Dunlop and had a treadwear of 200. Let us know how your times fare at your next event. Me and maybe a few local guys might pick up on these.

I have been following the discussions everywhere, but haven't seen this test mentioned anywhere. For some reason it is hidden on Tirerack's website -Just found it. Looks like if money is no object Neova's are still the best, but Dunlop's are probably the best budget alternative.

Nice find.  Looks like GRM has some more work to do.  I'd have to see a lot of amazing data on some of these new tires to pursuade me a way from the Yok's though.  The Dunlop's do look pretty good in the wet.

    Next year might be interesting!

Wow those Dunlops look like a good rain tire. I wouldn't have guessed they would be faster in the dry than the RE-01r, unless multiple laps were performed making heat a variable.

I haven't had the time to test the Dunlops as hoped, since I've been dialing-in a set-up for RE-01Rs for an event this weekend, to determine the class champion. But it's supposed to rain...James want to help swap tires Sat.? :)

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

I am going to run STX and quit dsp next year in anticipation of a 2009 shakeup for dsp/bsp - I want to stop changing my tires over at the event also - time issues and I don't have a trailer - I also don't feel like spending the money to bump my fenders to run 285's or the cost of that tire - so I think It is a strong class locally also -  Please help.  all I have to do is put the cat back on the car and change the tires...

WHAT TIRES SHOULD I RUN????    How about for the heavy rain??

     any input would be cool

I have to decide whether I am going to be in San Diego (points battle, I missed a few races) or go to CSW (I have not won a race in HS at Cal Club this year, but I have only done 4, so way out of the points.....maybe SK2 for the uber-PAX?).

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

We ran the Dunlops at the CSCC season opener, and were surprised at the results. We took 1st and 2nd in STU. The top STU STi was running in SM and ran a time between our 2 raw times. The fastest STU BMW M3 in the country was also there, but they had issues putting power down in the first run group. Conditions were about 55 deg and dry, 2 drivers, with full tread tires.

I would speculate the 245/40-17 Direzzas Z1s are faster than the Bridgestone RE-01Rs, that I was running the last 4 events, by about .5 sec on a low 50 sec course. This would be for my front heavy, front drive biased Evo. The Dunlops seem stiffer, brake better, and don't break away as easily in the front as the softer RE- 01Rs.

Also the Z1s are much more heat tolerant. We ran 6 extra runs in the 3rd group in ~70 deg temp. Where the RE-01Rs would go off in about 2.5 runs, the Dunlops were good until the 6th run.

Anybody know where to find these in 245/40-17 right now? Tirerack doesn't know when they'll get more, and I haven't found them anywhere else. Sad

Discount Tire Direct tells me that they can get them, but they are not on their website yet - you have to call them. And if you do order them, tell them that ButtDyno sent you. Seriously :)

Hmmm, 215/40/17 looks like an interesting option for the STS/STS2 Civic/Miata/CRX  crowd, especially if your local venue is open enough that you run out of second gear on the 195/50/15 B-stones.
