    Re: FM/F125 vs. CM...

I've been watching this thread and thought I would offer my thoughts.

The only reason that I drove in CM for 4 years is because Greg Vincent asked me.  Half way through a season he asked me if I wanted to drive the car for the rest of the year. No charge.  Just try it to see if I like it.

Naturally, I jumped at the chance, got hooked, and co-drove for the next three years.  His old car is for sale and I would jump at the chance to own it, but I have two daughters now that take financial precedence.

Someone that is not familiar or has not driven a C-Mod car (or any Mod car) is not going to be as quick to jump into owing one.  It's easy to find parts for the STS Honda if that's what you decide to buy.  Finding parts for a Formula Ford is not perceived to be as easy to the newbie.

If CM is to grow, it is going to take active invitations by the current CM car owners.  I'm not saying that you have to give a free ride to every Tom, Dick, or Harry that autocrosses, but find someone that looks promising, has been driving for a few years, and offer them a ride in the car for an event.

That's how I got hooked.  Both Al Cram and The Smiley's allowed me an event in their cars.  Got me into one.

That's a solid idea.  My co-driver could not make two events this year and I got co-drivers both times.  Since most Regions will allow more than 2 drivers per car, I'll look around for a third at a few events in '08.

    Re: FM/F125 vs. CM...

Paul Z. hit it right on the head. A few years ago we had 3 CM cars in Louisville, now 12. All the new guys were offered an opportunity to drive a CM at test & tunes, drivers school, and occasionally co drive at an event. These were folks that had interest and means to purchase a car. We really have a great time at each event! Hopefully, a number of us will be able to make it out to Topeka next year.

I agree, having guys who knew the cars, knew what the real season to season costs were and were willing to offer a run at a fun event or test and tune is what got me into it. That and the fact that our CM group is such a great group of folks to hang out with. I hope to make Topeka next year, assuming I can stop having kids for a year or two ;)   We need to try and get folks from other regions to make the drive to Louisville sometime next season also!
