    Party pooper! Smile

I say the very best tire is the one that you can afford, and the one that instills the most driver confidence...I happen to find both of those in the Hankooks.  Good job Jay for getting ahold of the tires, glad you could finally join us, hehe.

We ran 3 drivers at the SLC ProSolo, 31 laps total....then ran 8 hard local autocross laps on a lot known for shredding tires.....and then ran 2 drivers up at the Packwood ProSolo for 26 more laps....counting on fingers and toes that's 65 good hard laps on this set.  We will burn them another 20-25 laps tomorrow at a local Labor Day practice, and then probably get another 10 laps at another local event before the ProSolo finale.  THEN we'll likely run them the rest of the post-season at local events once again, probably with 3 drivers.  I love the C71's Big Smile

Re: Who's used the Hankook Z214??

Kindly ship a set of 13x8 Keizers to me and I will do back to back testing with all the datalogging a traqmate system will spit out. My Subaru uses a 5x100mm bolt pattern...good luck finding those used.... :)

    PedalFaster:
I don't mean to be a party pooper, but subjective, seat of the pants testing proves nothing.  Back-to-back testing against other tire models, preferably data logged, does provide some data points, but even that doesn't prove anything since different tires may work better with different cars, setups, and driving styles.
I'm satisfied in that they work well enough for me not to feel any difference in grip but a big enough difference in the accelleration and the wallet. I think more than a few folks are wondering how well these tires work and if it's worth the gamble to buy a set. I gambled based on the first hand accounts of those who used them, didn't pay too much attention to the statistical data and maybe rubbed a rabbits foot or 2 hoping they were good enough to consider taking to Topeka. I feel I got the better part of the gamble.

    See y'all in Topeka!

Any word on how these performed at Nats? Or when the c7 will be available anywhere?

Looking at Nationals results, 6 people used hankook's on 4 different cars and 1 person trophied with them.

Re: Who's used the Hankook Z214??

Guilty, that was my Trophy in HS.

I also finished 2nd at the ProSolo Finale.....with 3 wins and a 2nd, would have been good for an overall HS ProSolo Championship.  Congrats to Matt, though :)

Hey look I can post again!

I coned away 8th in FSP.....probably splashed it over, but oh well. I'm certainly not the caliber of driver whose results should be used to base any judgements on tires. Confused

I compared my 60ft times from the DC, Toledo and finale and found 2/10 by switching to the 'kooks. Most of that is probably the better size of 225-45-13 but wheelspin wasn't much worse, if any.

How did they perform at Topeka? In a word: superbly!

I had a great co-drive with James and discovered how well these tires work.  They work so well, that if I didn't brain fart, a dual trophy spot in the Subaru could have been had.

Sounds good.  I think I'll make my co-driver buy me a set.

Re: Who's used the Hankook Z214??

Where is my 285/30/18 size?  Or even 275/30/18?

With no tire available in E36SP sizing, I cant join the party.  But I would have 8 tires on a truck could I buy them.  I already use Hankook RS2s as my wet/street and am very happy with them.

Blah, I want contingency money too.

Re: Who's used the Hankook Z214??

I think that Hankook had the best Contingency Program last year of all the tire manufacturers, and word has it that they are INCREASING their budget for next season...all unofficial, but keep an eye out for it.  Remember also that they are cheaper than other brands (bonus!), and have 3 different compounds per size to fine tune the setup.

Re: Who's used the Hankook Z214??

I just picked up a set of used C71's in 205/50-15.  On 15x7 wheels what range of tire pressures are suggested?  Pressures similar to V710's?

With V710's in the same size I ran 29-32F, 28-30R.

    Thanks!

Re: Who's used the Hankook Z214??

Um, haha I beg to differ! "We" spent $1000 on 24 Hoosiers this year :)

.....but I also just picked up a set of C50 hankooks to run on the Saturn at local events so we don't tear up those nice expensive horribly fast wearing tires I won. :p

However if Hankook starts paying like $500 for a tour class win....that could be worth it right there.  OR...$1000 for a prosolo challenge win? haha ;)  Not that I ever expect to win a challenge round coning etc like I do :p

Re: Who's used the Hankook Z214??

Going from my memory, this is what I did:

    C70's: 37F/35R.  (245/45-16 x 4)

    V710's: 33F/31-29R (225/50-16F and 265/45-16R).

Hope this helps in some way.

Correct, we found that we needed to run a few pounds higher all around on most surfaces.

Re: Who's used the Hankook Z214??

The Z211s, now discontinued, made for some great rain tires.  The Z214 C50 compound also had surprisingly good grip on a wet surface.  The C51 which is their redesign on the C50 is actually a faster tire than the C50s.  I've heard rumors of a C71 coming out, but haven't seen one yet or driven on one.  The C70 is comparable to an A6 as mentioned by others.  I recommend the Hankooks to people as an alternative for the Hoosiers, they are just as fast and cheaper.  The problem is they have limited sizes and they are moving away from the grassroots crowd and going more into pro racing.

Re: Who's used the Hankook Z214??

C71 has been around for a while, I have been racing on them since around May I think (foggy memory, 2007 was a looong year!).  Construction improvement over the C70, zero compound changes.  I am still trying to get my hands on a new set of Z211's that are being advertised as blowouts (whoa, bad term...."closeouts") and save them for a Rainy Day.

I'm seriously considering getting the 'Kooks for my Scion XA, partly because they seem to last longer & partly because they're available in the same overall diameter as stock so my speedo is correct in my daily driving...
