Stan Whitney: Wouldn't you all really want a 9.5 -10" wide 22.8" tall 16" tire? Make a gain in grip and response. Something like a wider Mini S tire. Also more 16" wheels on the market as well I would bet.
Stan, in an ideal world, I'd agree. However, Hoosier doesn't currently have a short 16" tire they can modify to quickly get a tire to market. On the other hand, they do make a 225/45-15 that apparently could be used as a starting point for a wider 15" tire.

Wide tires that would work. Having to cut the fenders for that wide of a tire. Having to buy custom wheels to make them fit. I
guess I should just be happy they are making a tire that is wide and
will work but now i have to spend a lot more cash to make them fit.....

Joojoo: You're in the Street Modified forum and you're bitching about having to buy wider wheels and flaring your fenders. Me thinks you should be tickled to death to even have the option to go wider.

I
thought I said "I should be happy.......". And it's not just "wider wheels"...it's custom wheels. Not all of us want a 100%
DSP car to run local events with. I'm not even intrested in going to
the Nationals. The flares and spendy custom wheels really make or break
the full competition cars from the rest. I have a full on right
to not be 100% happy about this. it's an opinion, don't like it, not my problem.

Woooohooooo! I'm so happy they listened! I think I just pissed myself! I am going to see if I can get them under my Mini. This may change my outlook on DSP a bit, if I can fit them up front, I might just have to go full bore DSP. :-) Now for the offseason speculation about my JCW Mini setup..............
What is anyones opinion on me being able to fit them under my virgin Mini Cooper JCW Fenders? I don't think I can bare to hack them, do you guys think it will require me to hack the fenders? It will be easily enough to remove the rubber molding which will provide a slight bit better clearance, but, I don't want to hack into the bonnet/fenders. For 2006, I had been running 235/40/17 Yoko Neova's with no rubbing issues at all and the tires were right at the fender edge, so, I'm hoping I can just let the front 275/35/15's hang out of the fenders a bit with no rubbage upon cornering since the tire is shorter than my 17's. Does anyone think there is any chance of that happening or am I going to be forced to hack away?

The chances are pretty good you'll need to do a bit of cutting on the outer fenders. 275/35-15's will be over 1" wider than the 235/40-17 Neovas - and I'm guessing almost all that additional width will need to be added to the outside. The 15" tire will give you approx. .7" more clearance on top - is that enough to provide for full suspension movement without hitting the stock fender lips? It would probably take some mighty stiff springs.

Ughh. Yeah, it will have to be added to the outside, I was already at the max on the inside. I guess my hope was that it would be short enough to clear the fenders, when I had the 15X8's on there with 225/45/15, they were outside the fenders slightly and didn't rub, but, I guess we are talking about another 1.5-2" with wider wheels so my turning may also be affected. Anyway, thanks for the input, I can't wait!

Actually, they do, it's the GS Mini tire - 205/40/16 - 8" tread, 22.8" tall. Moot point now I guess, the 15 is still good.

Nothing officially announced yet - but based on other comparable Hoosier sizes, I'd guess approx. $250-$260 each.

DILYSI Dave:I seriously doubt you can fit a 275 under a stock fender. That said, if you don't want to chop up the originals, it should be easy enough to unbolt them and store them, and chop up some non-original ones. The real bummer is I'll have to cut my bonnet(hood) if your right since that is a good percentage of the fender on a Mini. Not sure about the other panels, I'm not too worried about the bumper, I have the stock/non-aero I can easily mutilate and swap out easily enough.

A 245 isn't a game changer. The 225 is already a 245. A 275 busts SM wide open and means a lot to some SP classes. 3-tenths of an inch of tread won't mean much to most folks, especially in SP and SM, and won't do a whole lot to make cars that can't fit 18s more competitive. A full inch or more on each corner is significant. I'd imagine they're looking to fill a demand created by folks who would run 285/18s but can't fit them because of height (not width), not folks who just want a fatter tire to shoehorn onto a 7 or 8" oem wheel or to clear stock fenders. I'd consider running them just because it'd mean I could get my CG probably 2" lower.
Stan's right tho, a 16 with a shorter sidewall would be better. Though there are quite a few wheel companies that make custom 15s, since slicks often come in wide 15" sizes. Nothing can compare to the response of the 245/285 18s. I bet it'd get a little stiffer if you put it on a 10.5" wheel and stretched it a little. Folks put the 225 on a 9, right?
Exciting stuff!
