    10" wide 15" Hoosier

I spoke to Jeff Speer at Hoosier about making a 10" wide 22.8" diameter radial. He said with enough interest from customers, we could see a 275/35/15 or something similiar. So, small-bore, big-tire users, e-mail jaspeer@hoosiertire.com asap to get them to consider building them.  Allen

Wow Allen, great!  Hopefully people will email, as there's definitely a lot of talk on here about the tire, and it's been a long time coming.

Sounds like you're trying something FWD with a bit more horsepower?  Hope it makes it down to DC often..!

That would be great if something was offered, I'd even be happy with a 245 or 255 wide/short 15" tire.  I am amazed that noone has offered this yet.  I'll commit to 10 sets over the next 2 seasons if they come through.  Email sent!!!

    Re: 10" wide 15" Hoosier

Yeah, 245 or 255 is probably the practical limit for the cars that a tire like this would benefit anyway.  The same wheel well limitations that keep small cars from running the taller 16 and 17" sizes also prevent them from running tires that are too wide.  My miata required significant massaging with a sledgehammer to get 245/45/16s to fit.  The primary problem was not height but width causing issues with the inner fender structure.  Wide tires swing a big arc when turned.

The only reason I thought a 10" wide 15" Hoosier would be called a 275 is that most current 10" wide offerings are 275s. Also most 9" are 225s. Jeff also stated that it might not be that difficult to add a 1" spacer to the 225/45/15 mold. Please help our under-tired cause with an e-mail.     Allen

Don't get me wrong, I'd attempt to use it if it was available, I just want to see anything wide since nothing is currently available.  I just cannot believe that noone makes a wide/short 15" tire.  I can't seem to figure why they don't see the obvious gap of tire availability here.  Anyway, I sent my email for both explaining that we just need something wide/short whether it be 245, 255, 265, 275 etc......  If they build it, I'll try to fit it no matter what the width

Below is his response to my email.  I think it will very well could happen soon, of course, we spread the word to those who are interested so they will know.  I'm thinking they just don't realize how many people want this tire, otherwise, we'd already have it.  Post this info at every forum that you think would be interested, thats about all we can do and cross our fingers.  Here is his email...................................................

    Craig,
Thanks for your input. We will consider this as we plan for 2007.
Customer input is very valuable to us, so we appreciate your suggestion.
Currently we do not have any plan yet to offer a new 15" size, but this
may change if the market demands it.
    Have a nice holiday season.

emailed yesterday, here is my response:

    Chris,
Thanks for your input. We value our customer's suggestion and will
consider offering this tire for 2007. I will be doing some research on
this size and the cost to produce this.
Thanks for taking the time to contact us.

    Re: 10" wide 15" Hoosier

we've been campaigning for 245s for years and now talk about 275?  i wouldn't hold my breath.  a 245 can still fit on a production wheel, a 275 requires a custom built wheel.  I just can't see enough people building the required wheel for that tire.  If the 245 had come out two years ago, i would have kept my Miata.

    Re: 10" wide 15" Hoosier

I emailed Jeff again telling him I didn't care on exact specs, we just needed a tire between 245-275 width thats short.

Keep spreading the word, here was his response this morning......................

    Craig,
I have received about 10 - 15 e-mails requesting this size tire and am
working on the possibility of offering this new size. We will let you
    know what happens.

    Re: 10" wide 15" Hoosier

This would be cool to get a wider tire in 15"

I have 8.5" wide rims and 11.5 inches of fender to fill.  Make em big!!!!!!!!!  OK?

    Re: 10" wide 15" Hoosier

Asking for a 245 and a 275 seems a little much.  Could we all compromise on a 255/40/15 ? Yes

    Re: 10" wide 15" Hoosier

Wouldn't you all really want a 9.5 -10" wide 22.8" tall 16" tire?  Make a gain in grip and response. Something like a wider Mini S tire. Also more 16" wheels on the market as well I would bet.

A lesson from the 18" tires, when the 245 and 285 18's came out, the improvement in response with the ultra short sidewall was wonderful.

    Re: 10" wide 15" Hoosier

Well, I think that you have a point with the shorter side wall and there is a good chance that 16" 285s would be faster then the 15" tire of the same OID. But, the main thing here is to persuade the tire manufacturers to build a shorter tire from what is available right now, particularly in 22.8" for the OID. All of the guys running 24.5" OID could use 245s in 16 and 18, or go all the way to the 285 on 18" rims. Compare to the guys running much more popular (apparently) 25.5" OID tires that is still a very narrow choice, but still good enough!! If they (tire guys) would make a wide tire in that 22.8" size that would open a lot of possibilities for a lots of cars and I know for sure that DSP would become extremely interesting between the RWD Bimmers and FWD Type Rs.

I even send my own mail to Jeff asking the same thing even though I have no dog in this fight! Smile
