Run it.  Its legal under the existing classification in DSP.  The ASP listing is for the earlier dealer-installed cars.  You'll see something official in Fasttrack in four weeks, but a call to the national office (Doug) can verify the info I am giving you here.

    --Andy

PS: Jim, your liaisons failed you again.  I had to bring it up. Sad [:(]

PPS: The clever folks will realize that ud/bd will allow you to run an early, dealer-installed JCW car in DSP now, rather than ASP.

    Andy

Thanks for the info, its much appreciated.  Thats what I was attempting to argue on the other post on this issue, but, was beaten into submission, sort of like the firewall/intake issue.  :-)

    Craig

The April Fastrack now states that the dealer installed kits are DSP legal.

"Street Prepared: The '06+ Mini Cooper S JCW factory option package is covered

and previous (dealer-installed) JCW package is the one covered by the current

pre-'06 can be updated to the '06+ package specs and thus be a DSP car."

The only thing I find confusing is that it also states:

"- The following class change proposal is submitted for member comment: Effective 1/1/2007, remove from ASP the Mini "Works" Package listing. NOTE: this will allow all JCW package Mini Cooper S models to be covered by the Cooper S listing in DSP (see Tech Bulletin below)."

Since the packages/parts are the same, if it is DSP legal already, why does it need member comment to remove it from ASP if technically it already has been removed as per the first statement?

The orginal ASP listing was a sort of pity classing like the STU JCW classing.   It was not placed there to be competive it was placed there to have a place to play since it was such a popular AutoX car.

The DSP JCW MCS is the new factory package.  The old dealer package just happens to be the same and can be considered an "Update" on an older MCS that had the JCW package installed.

The rules process requires that prior listings be published for member comment before they are moved from one class to another so it is being listed for member comment now.

The older dealer installed package is still classed in ASP you just happen to be able to run the older one in DSP under the magic of SP rules update/backdate.

Me likey!  Now I just need to figure out what size of spacers we will need on the 225/50/15's after they are mounted tomorrow.  :-)

    Craig,

Please, please, please do not pull your car out of STX at the Walnut Ridge Tour and run DSP. I really don't want to drive 800 miles to race against one other carSmile [:)]

No worries.  We have 4 drivers in the new Mini.  2 in STX for sure and 2 in STU or DSP.  ;-)  There is no way we won't have 2 drivers in STX, for the Tour, I'm STX all the way.  For the Pro though, I just need to make sure things are working well before I run STX, but, there will be 2 drivers in the Pro in my car regardless of who they are whether it be Bishop and Silva, or Barnard and Silva or Me and Silva.

    see ya!

Everything is installed as of this last week.  We had a local event today.  I can't seem to keep from nipping 1 cone per run on pretty much every run with the wider rubber/track.  lol  I think on my 8 runs, I hit 1 cone on 7 of them and the 8th I had smaller wheels/tires.  Things felt pretty good, now if we can just get it to rotate on that WNR surface.

    Cliff,

I would have been in a GS mini there since it was borrowed, you guys would have swashed me 3 times over.  My little Mini is a whole different beast entirely, I may only be squashed once now.  Also, I don't know if I can control it just yet.  :-)  Although, I had more fun running fun runs in DSP today autocrossing at our local than I ever have, so, if you guys give me a 3 second handicap, I might just jump to DSP and let Joe Silva, Ryan Barnard and/or Mark Bishop run STX and pull one of them for a 2nd driver to DSP.  ;-)

Sounds good to me...not sure about the 3 seconds though Wink [;)]  We can use some test runs to set the lengths and run it just like the show Pinks....except without the actual pinks...lol

which other BS car moves from BS to DSP? really seems a bit irrational..that's where the GS cars go....my DS car goes to CSP. other DS cars go to ESP like the WRX. personally i would put it with the catch all of CSP. all sports cars under 2.0L not otherwise classified...but i guess some people on the board must drive mini's...if a DSP car is getting FTD then that's a bit messed personally...yea you have to be a good driver, but still you'll murder every other car in PAX then. there's no way civic SI or a sentra will ever compete with this. it's unfair to everybody that's already been classed DSP. i was there i know what that competition is like. even the Cooper S kills it. anyways...rant over...

Because that's where it was classed according to the April Fastrack Tech Bulletin. (I also do not agree with it, but they make the rules).

    6. Street Prepared: The '06+ Mini Cooper S JCW factory option package is covered by the current listing for the Mini Cooper S in DSP. The '05 and previous (dealer-installed) JCW package is the one covered by the current ASP listing. Per Street Prepared update/backdate allowances, a pre-'06 can be updated to the '06+ package specs and thus be a DSP car.
